As a practicing Iaidoka for over a decade (plus other JMA's since the late 80's), I don't particularly pay attention to fancy knots on my sageo... I tend to go for the practical approach since I'll be tying the sageo onto my obi. But like others have mentioned, tying sageos can be a ritualistic part of the art, especially of the sword was meant to be a presentation piece and had to look nice. To each his/her own is OK with me.

The fittings are far more Chinese than Japanese, so what we have here is a very confused sword that's pregnant not worth what it wants... I can't say the other sword does anything for me, either. I've seen better for that price. Lol! I didn't know swords could get pregnant! Sorry, just had to lol at that one.

Surprisingly, I just watched this on Netflix, I liked it. I mean, it's no "Hawk the Slayer', but it was good stuff. Took me a bit to realize it was a rehash of the 47 Ronin, but its a solid movie. Same here - too much of a 47 Ronin influence imho. Good actors, good fight scenes though.

I've never tested out a CS Emperor katana... could it be that the edge geometry/ha niku is too thick to cut tatami effectively? I have a prototype katana from a Chinese forge that has that problem with light targets, but sails through heavy targets with ease.

Some bad news for those of us who use UPS to ship items... looks like prices are going up. And if UPS is raising their prices, I'm sure FedEx. DHL, USPS, etc aren't far behind.

I had emailed him thru Ebay regarding the possibility of a semi-customized sword about a month ago. He never got back to me. I tried again about 2 weeks ago and no response. Two days ago I checked his auctions and he had a few new listings including this: www.ebay.com/itm/281786417613?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITWhich is almost exactly what I wanted to begin with. So I bought it and messaged him regarding making a few changes, namely a saya with buffalo horn kojiri koiguchi and kurikata and he replied quickly and the price for changes was very reasonable. Not sure if he was just too busy last month or he just applies more attention to actual customers who have made a purchase vs. a casual window shopper. Either way he's been responsive post purchase and fair with price. After it arrives I'll post a review. I've also got a custom on the way from St-Nihonto that I'll review as well when it gets here. I'm new here BTW so hello! Thanks for the info, and hello as well! I see your forum name refers to the Five Deadly Venoms, one of my fav Chinese kung fu movies. So, seeing as the 5 others in the clan were the centipede, snake, scorpion, toad, and salamander, what does that make you?

I suspect you all are right about the Chinese government buying back/manipulating prices on swords... they subsidize almost every form of tangible goods, and manipulate their currency to artificially make their economy stronger.

Welcome to SBG... hopefully the info here will help you with your collection, seeing as there are very few options for buying sharp knives/swords in Mexico.

I've never peened a sword before, but have peened rivets on old VW rims for my wife's '63 Karmann Ghia (it's been sold) using something very similar to the tool in the following link (not where I bought mine btw, just for reference) - www.piersideparts.net/WW111601000.htmlIt has a small rounded tip, which makes for a really nice rounded/domed peen

If you're serious (or even moderately serious) about joining a dojo, another suggestion I would add is to join a forum dedicated to martial arts like E-Budo www.e-budo.com There's tons of info on there for beginners to masters, including dojo listings (with ratings), and the advice given is generally good from knowledgable people.

It is a decent sword with good proportions and weight distribution - the main concern I've heard (and felt) are the metal studs on the handle... they can be (and are) uncomfortable, but can be easily removed if you wish to do so, but will leave tiny holes in the leather where they were attached. I've seen people take the studs and the leather off and redo the grip - shouldn't be too big of a project.
