Guys, i just watched this movie and i like to very much break a lance for it! A dark, minimalistic fantasy interpretation of "47 Ronin" which is FAR superior to that LSD-Hollywwod-Keanu-Who?-thingy...just beautiful IMHO! Grey, snowy cities and landscapes, filmed GOT-like in Czechoslovakia, a Clive Owen with a face carved from stone (i mean that in a positive way), decent swordfights (with almost Jian-like swords) and nice costumes and CGI...no magic, no dragons, just a condemned lord, his true and loyal knight(s), a corrupt traitor, a weak emperor...revenge is a dish best served cold!

I recently watched it as well. Did not show the execution being finished at the end. Wonder what was up with that?

Fits with the rest of the movie; kinda fresh, comfort absence of bloodshed! ;-)

I watched it awhile back and had pretty much the same impression: it's a better 47 Ronin movie than the actual 47 Ronin movie.

Can one ever get tired of too many sword movies, I think not. Well not if they're done right, this one looks like a good one. Thanks for posting it. Here's one for the bad list that I just picked up on DVD. Unlike Nicholas Cage's Season of the Witch which started off really bad but got a lot better as it went along, this one started out bad and took it right to the end. I got a kick out of the Japanese warriors wearing what looked like leather Gjermundbu helmets. And Hayden Christensen's punk rock hairdo was a bad joke. I was disappointed in Northmen which came out a few months ago on DVD, it could have been a lot better. I'm going to get in the habit of watching more trailers before buying movies on DVD's.

Surprisingly, I just watched this on Netflix, I liked it. I mean, it's no "Hawk the Slayer', but it was good stuff. Took me a bit to realize it was a rehash of the 47 Ronin, but its a solid movie.

It was good enough that I wish there were more movies from this universe. The entire world they set up was fascinating and the style of the world was one where you were constantly wondering if it was the past, the future, or some other mythical realm/planet. There was enough richness in the world created that I could totally see other movies being made from this base. Though I doubt there will be any.
Not at the top of my list of amazing sword movies, but still a good enough one to be part of the list of fun sword movies.

Exactly my feelings...my favorite type of movie experience: expected absolutely nothing and got a nice piece of filmmaking! Well it was mainly because of quite positive reviews here in Germany; if i remember correctly the movie rated quite bad in the US... I really enjoyed it after watching stuff like "47 Ronin" and "Seventh Son"...;-)

I have only ever known one 47 Ronin movie until now. I will give Last Knights because of you guys saying that it's a good movie.
I may try the Keanu Reeves version too. I like shlock.

I avoided a lot of the bad sword movies... I have a nose for semprini, and walk away before I rub up on it. :-)
