like it or not, gold plated is not in fact "made of gold" (to quote YOU-verbatim-)and i pointed that out for the benefit of those new members that could be misled. To state the FACT that very low quality gemstones are used is not a negative opinion, its the truth.
A sword that isn't by definition a true sword is in fact a Sword Like Object. If not, then the same logic would infer that a stuffed animal is in some way a real animal,........it's not. There is nothing whatsoever untoward about stating that marto offerings aren't real swords, again they're not. A sword by definition is a weapon, and marto blades are not weapons,......are they? I'm terribly sorry that you dont like the way that sounds, but its true nonetheless. The value of the gold and gems on any of their models is not worth what it would take to retrieve it. Take any one of them to a jeweler, a goldsmith or a gemologist and ask what they'll give for it. I never knocked Marto, and have in no way shape or form deviated form the guidelines we work within here at the "worlds friendliest forum". It would appear that you are the one that needs the reminder, as your contrarian attitude is highly argumentative at best. The only one being disrespectful within this thread is you.
I've tried to be a concise as possible, yet you want to preach about unrelated points of contention that just do not exist within the confines of my post.

I wasnt trying to open a can or anything, and i fail to see where I disrespected Marto in any way. Try passing a plated engagement ring off as "made of gold" and im willing to bet that your earful surpasses mine. I made reference to your comment regarding the hilt composition and its "value" in an effort to clarify what could very easily be misunderstood by the less experienced. The value of the gold and gems on the best of their offerings is not as your post might suggest , and for me to clarify that is in no way deserving of your rant. Even you make the distinction that they're decorative, so what's with the condescension?

Just for some clarity,..Marto sword hilts ARE NOT MADE OF GOLD OR SILVER!! Gold and silver plating,...yes low (industrial) grade semi precious stones at best as well. Stainless steel blades make these the prettiest of the SLO's, and i wouldnt call any of them real swords.

My first harley was purchased through ebay. 200+ transactions later, and i've only ever had 1 problem where i paid and the item never came,......a $3.00 sticker For what your looking for, ebay would always be my first look. The last time i bought leather from ebay, the seller had good quality in all grades skins etc. Talk to Uncle George at Partners leather

lyndle, if your searching the vast web, try searching for upholstery leather. Most times youll find that 2-3 oz. is used most commonly in the garment and furniture fields. I've never had any issues finding 2-3 oz. on ebay for everything from horse hide to fish skins.

I'm one for more facets, but this has a nice shape. I'd probably try vertical risers and wire wrap to the pommel with a spacer. I'd play with different looks till something grabbed me. I was hooked from the get go on this one, and a nice job with the write up too.

Be careful on them flats, thats where i made my mistake. I didnt realize that every pass on the flats thins the corner meat on the grip core. My last grip was looking great, and as i held it i thought,.....one more pass over all the edges and it should be perfect. Then I got a peep show from the tang slot!! Either way, this looks great so far and should make a nice piece when its done.

Looks about right to me :) Better safe than sorry anyday. I'll remind you that its easy to get carried away when you start "sculpting" on the sander. be especially careful after you "oval"it out too, as those rounded corners can seem thicker than they really are.

At $7000 to $8000 per rifle it's pricier than me going out and paying full MSRP for a similar rifle + maybe $1200 to $2500 in optic(s) for example so I would hope the smart gun would survive an IED, environmental effects or the wheels of a truck. It seems like it would most likely survive the rain/lake/mud/dog at the least. Really interesting stuff Edited: I have a Marlin lever action rifle that shots 45/70 rounds, I wonder how hilarious it would look with all the smart gun fire control equipment on there... /guilty pleasure .........been looking for one of them for 2 months now,....is it stainless?

That is truly a re-design if ever there was one! As much as this is more in keeping with a traditional scimitar, I have to say that it does nothing for me as an elf blade. Islamic/asian blades just put me off for some reason. I do like what you've done with the hilt and grip on this one, I forgot about the hunting cat aspect as described. The worst part for me, is that with this being such an iconic sword, it has somehow engraved itself into my head with images of the windlass pieces. I've thought more than once that my windlass raptor would make a nice start to a drizzt project blade, but that would obviously lead to having to get another sword to represent twinkle.

I pretty much felt the same way. The guy that broke the tip off his blade really had that thing pretty well jacked up by the end i'd say. What i couldnt get over, is the fact that 2 of the smiths failed to follow directions for 4" of serrations on their knife aspect. I was really hoping for much more than last night offered. I'll probably watch the next installment, but if thats all they got, i wont make the third episode.

no, as with most projects, my pickiness is creating a bit of a barrier. I've got my design altogether, and know exactly what i want to do with it, but i havent found wood suitable for my idea. I'm trying to find something that looks nice in 6+ feet, thats strong enough to handle a slim graceful shape, and isnt super expensive. I found some brazilian cherry(?) that will handle strength and length, but its not quite as "showy" as id like to see. Its strong and heavy with a really tight, light grain, but theres almost no figuring at all with it. I'd really like to see something like a light colored spalted wood with some birdseye to it. I might just have to settle,..and spend for a board of curly maple and be done with it. I'm in the process of building a new garage for my workshop / motorcycle storage area. It's summertime now, so im pretty much spending my free time either tinkering with the bikes or riding them. Once fall comes, and the garage is done, i've got a ton of projects to get to. 3 bare blades and furniture, your spearhead needs hafted, 2 more axe handles to make and my own fantasy dagger to finish up. Throw in the misc. polishing and sharpening projects, and i've got a decent back log right now. I was working your war picks in the basement, but i got sick of the sawdust, so i moved that operation out back and havent been in there since. I should be ready to start rockin some of em out by the end of october, beginning of september.
