So I've had this damaged Albion moat sale blade sitting around for a few years now and thought I would see if I could salvage it. Figured it would be nice to have two Atlanteans, everyone should have at least two. It had a large grinding nick along one ridge which I was only able to sand out to some extent but not get rid of.
I completed the rough grinding, which had already been started before I got the blade, did the heat treatment, and then the finish grinding and sanding. The base of the blade near the little "ears" had been too deeply ground, and there was nothing I could do to fix that. Consequently, when the blade was heat treated those thin areas potato chipped into a little wavy pattern. The only way to fix that was to get rid of the edge all together. That led me to the idea of cutting some scallops into the base of the edge to remove the wavy area.
Also in that last picture, you can see some of the pitting in the blade from being left to rust for an extended period (all the little black spots).
Before I had heat treated the blade, I went ahead and cast a set of Atlantean hilt parts a couple weeks ago, thinking that the only damage might be the nick in the ridge, but also knowing that the thin edge near the base might also warp badly. Which it did. Here is what it looks like with the roughly finished bronze Atlantean parts.
So since it doesn't really look like a proper Atlantean with the scallops in the blade, I thought, "maybe I should make a set of Antediluvian parts for this blade instead." Here it is with a set of wax Antediluvian parts fit to the blade.
So there's the question; Atlantean or Antediluvian?

I think it would look good either way, but with more Atlanteans around, I say go with Antediluvian. With the scallops, it's actually pretty unique looking to me. I like it!

If it was a perfect blade I would vote for the Antediluvian, but with it being a moat blade I would just use the parts you already have.

Thanks for the input Voltan, JGonzalez, LG Martial Arts, and Lonely Wolf Forge. It seems to look a bit odd to me with the Atlantean parts, since I'm so used to seeing that type on a regular Atlantean blade.
Hey Deepbluedave, that's also a very good point. I have these parts already made, and if I don't use them on this blade, they'll just be sitting around and then I have to make a whole new set of parts for the sword. That's a lot of extra work for a moat blade.
Although, I also don't have an Antediluvian myself at all yet. Also, if I made an Antediluvian, I could put it up for sale if I wanted to as a "budgetbanzai". Those two things could help justify making another set of hilt parts.
Hey chrisperoni, I hadn't even noticed that :)

Prefer your Antediluvian take over the originals period.

All personal feelings aside :) . The less squared or more flowing profile of the Antediluvian fits the blade better. About the blade, talk about making lemonade out lemons

I'm all for scallops with the antediluvean. Its wicked little nuances like this that get me all creaaamy for a sword.

Thank you very much Pogo4321 :D
Thanks for the input aussie-rabbit :)
Thanks Alexander, maybe not quite lemonade, more like "lemon flavored juice drink" from lemons ;) I don't think this blade will be any good for hard targets, but should do very nicely against lighter or softer stuff like mats or pumpkins.
Thanks ? KaOsBlaKbLaDe :P

Very nice! I definitely think it looks better as an Antediluvian.

Thanks everyone for your input. This blade has now been commissioned to be finished out as an Antediluvian.

Thanks everyone for your input. This blade has now been commissioned to be finished out as an Antediluvian. I wish i'd known that was an option,.....i'd have done the same, but either way, I'm glad it's going Antediluvian!

Sorry KaOsBlaKbLaDe, it really hadn't originally been an option until someone started talking to me about it.
