Sam, you gonna post a write up after you get a chance to touch a few off?? I'd love to have a .308 and mike's right it's gonna make a .223 look like a plinker.

LOL, accessories,......no doubt. My lil lady never has a problem with my toys, but walks away whispering really bad things about the little "bits" that come afterwards  . I seriously got a chuckle from that post .

thanks for the replies guys, the only thing that got me with this particular sword, was the regular price of 500.00 and the discount. If it can't be rated 8 or better as a cutter I don't want it. It's tough to deny the elegance of a nicely figured pattern welded blade. I have a couple bowies/daggers of various welded patterns and most of them hold an edge really well, and my camp knife is tough as nails, but it's still a matter of steel quality. Saito, you're right, some don't heat treat their pattern welded blades and those are the ones to avoid like the plague, just like you wouldn't want a 9260 that hadn't been treated. Well done pattern welded steel can make a beautiful blade on all accounts, but it's really gotta start with a master's steel.

Congratz!! I think your gonna like the DPMS. I dont have a .308, but bught a few of the panther bull .223s. I managed to get all my receivers with the recession for the auto sear before they changed them. I love em!! I have never had a single problem whatsoever after thousands of rounds. I was really impressed with the DPMS and since getting them, i've let my bushies go, and all I have besides the DPMS's is my colt AR-15. Congratulations again and enjoy!!!!

I was wondering if any here have had any experience with the Cherry Blossom "damascus" bladed katana?? I'd like a better than average japanese blade, suitable for medium cutting as a minimum. There are 2 available as closeouts and I like the looks, and the stats look ok, but i'm really unfamiliar with true japanese blades. Any help ou guys could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I gotta say this is the best thread i've read so far. I've learned quite a bit about virgins, snuff and whitey tighties I was wondering if there is a gallery somewhere where i can see your work Greybeard? For the original subject of the thread, If you were offering fittings for the H/T, i would start looking for a bare blade immediately. I've been looking for pre-made fittings for a short sword, and i've been able to find next to nothing of quality.

Thanks for that, but apologies were in order. I just now noticed your age, and it caught me off guard. I gotta give ya credit kiddo, your not sittin on yer behind playin COD, but workin with your hands, and i'm all for that however it manifests itself. I'm actually looking forward to seeing your sword, so long as you promise not to leave any drywall screws showin  My first pair of nunchuka didn't look much better, and i was trying to make em pretty. Its how we learn.Kinda like shootin yer mouth off, see how good i am at that??? My most recent attempt at a weapon was a couple years ago while waiting for paint to dry on my motorcycle. Spring steel scrap, the guard was made from an old piece of 1 1/4 inch boiler plate and the handle is a piece of pipe i found on the garage floor.Partial tang(4") welded inside and out to the pipe handle, a pseudo hollow grind, the blade welded around the guard and a clipped tip. It's heavy, its sharp and in no way pretty or functional. It took about a full day to make it and slap it together, i tried to blue it for effect but it really didn't take. I'll try to post a pic in a second. edit: looks like i gotta figure out how to post pics

any chance you can post more detailed pics of the ornamentation other than the historic scenes? Do i see a lion, serpents? any other totems of note? religious imagery? masonic markings? I'm curious myself.

I'll again offer my apologies to any that took offense to my comments. It was late and didn't sound that snarky in my head. I meant no disrespect at all to ChrisRiley93.

man you guys are killing me!! LOOKS AWESOME Sean. I'm still waiting on Zhiadau Razuur from Brenno, and was thinking of tiger eye or hematite to go with the b/w ebony grip as well as extensive engraving on the furniture. I'm actually off to Home depot tomorrow to get my supplies so i can get started. The engraving will probably be next years project, as brenno also hooked me up with his vision of the bare morgul blade that i gotta fab some furniture for, and posts like these are truly an inpiration.

excellent viewpoint regarding the .243 vs. .308 for sight picture and recoil. I would have opted for .308 until reading that. This makes me wanna get out and start practicing my long range skills. I haven't attempted a shot past 300 yard in more than 10 years, wow how time flies. Great write up, as if i really needed more juices flowing!!

this is the silliest of any discussions i've read on this site to date. It's flawed from the get go. First, if you are DEFENDING, you have no element of surprise whatsoever. Second you are DEFENDING, meaning to me, the gun is already unholstered otherwise, what's the threat? The 21 foot rule applies to agressive idividuals with the initial intent to kill, and relies COMPLETELY on the element of surprise. If some dude comes running out of an alley as fast as he can toward me and my weapon is holstered, then i might buy the farm, but seeing as that is not the typical type of situation encountered by most civilians in RL it hardly seems valid here. And you can rest assured that if I'm in a location where that type of scenario should be expected(combat maybe), well long story short i'm already gripped up, lined up and tracking my sights and i'll now give anyone with a knife 3 feet.

Wow, I really thought the 1st attempt looked great. It did appear that the leather was a little too thick for such intricate work, but i thought it looked great!! I'm a perfectionist too, so i know how you feel, although from the pics you sent, you're OCD must be way worse than mine. The only point i'm tryin to make is I thought the 1st attempt looked MUCH better than the finished pic. I'm hoping to see you give it one more go with a lighter leather after you get your plating done. Very nice work indeed.

'm new to the forum too, and commend you all for your advice. I'd also like to state that with a little initiative, all the info. i've actually read on the forum, the SBG custom is a great buy. Orakulo, you did say that a "good" katana was worth double your initial range, and the custom options available in the SBG sword offer alot in the way of your own color, tsuba etc.etc.etc. I've been looking real hard at that as an option, and I'm a pretty difficult guy to please. To me, a sword as strictly decoraton, is a waste of space, and an insult to the heritage of the blade. A decorative blade has no "spirit". It seems that you've gone to enough length to wind up here for a reason. Please don't take this as an insult, it's not my intention to offend. if you really think about it, you should be able (with patience) to find any one of the higher quality katanas used even. Good luck, be patient, it'll come together.

congratz!! I'm an 870 guy for pumpers (or franchi for tactical) my only two complaints with the mossberg's i've used are 1. safety placement (older receivers that have been well used have a tendency to get way loose and change position walking through heavy brush. 2. every mossy I've ever racked felt like it had sand in the action compared to my "massaged" 870
but, that all being said, my buddy knocks down 23's and 4's at the trap house with his and he LOVES it. They really are a good DURABLE weapon that'll outlive any of us if you treat her well.
