having had a go at a couple of titanium blades myself (one of which is here viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18251) i would highly recommend using steel, sure its heavy but its also a lot more forgiving, Ti doesnt hold an edge worth a damn, its hard to grind, gives off super incandescent sparks (comparable to welding)and is really hard to forge, ive made a claymore that was close to six ft total length and wouldnt even attemp to replicate it in Ti, would take far too much grinding and you cant even aneal it then temper it once rough grinding is done.i think if it worked as a blade material it would be used more commonly instead of only being used in things like diving knives that dont require sharp edges but do require corrosion resistance

got the forge going over weekend and knocked out a few projects i have had on the back burner for a while as well as starting another one (to be posted later once finished) here is this weekends efforts first up a viking seax made from bar, forge shaped then incised with the word fenrir whilst hot, handle made from brass and pine peened on, strong as sank it into a solid wood block about half way up the blade trying to peen the handle on

had forge lit yesterday and had a play and started on a few new projects the most ambitious of which is a katana style blade cut from a piece of stock then curved slightly and tempered in the forge, habaki made from a padlock, tsuba made from steel plate, not sure what i will do with tsuba yet might get it chromed gold or black, also made a couple of hand forged arrow heads (way harder than i thought they would be  Attachments:

decided whilst im on my mad building rampage to have a go at this just because its too cool looking, this is my interpretation of said, its sort of a sax like blade its 74 cm lon and just under 8 at its widest point.made from steel plate, wood and leather, painted the handle to look more like bone, deliberatly left the blade looking crappy so it looks like it has spent time above the wall

did this one a couple of weeks ago just hadnt posted it yet  it made from fairly thin gauge steel mainly as an experiment to see if i could make a frankish axe by extending the blade out and curving it into the eye poll, works well plan on trying it on some thicker steel, very happy with this one Attachments:
