Well i just started my first knife today kinda a hodgepodge design made out a tracing from a Paring knife my mother has.. anyhow the blade is a tad over 3.25 inches and and the handel will be around 3.5 to 4 inches it is made from a 3/16 in thick by 1 inch wide peace of ASI 4062 bar stock that i got at a local Fleet supply store for $7 tools i used were Hacksaw.. with 18 TPI blade.. tried a 24 TPI but 18 cuts so much faster.. and cleaner 4.5 inch Angel Grunder with Grinding wheel, and 80 grit flap disk.. i think i will go with a 120 grit flap disk next time though cut so fast threw the steel.. and a Bastard File to finish shapping the blade.. i am not 100% done with the blade though. next will be the Handel and Tempering and hardning the blade.. i am defo on my way to learning how to do this well enough to make a sword.. Looking good. The plunge cut still needs some serious cleaning up but otherwise it's shaping up nicely.
