thanks, not tempered yet as cant light forge for couple of more months (fire restrictions and heat waves where i live ) .but i do my own tempering and will do these when i can, nothing to be scared of with tempering its merely heat and cool  give it a go on some of your off cut if worried about how the steel will react, and chuck up some pics love to see other peoples projects especially ones made from found or re-purposed items

been working on these for the past few weeks been slowed by hot weather and fire restrictions but finally got them mostly done first up my off cut rapier this piece started life as a piece i cut off another blade decided i would turn it to a rapier, cup is made from a cup i found at an op shop years ago, cross guard is high carbon steel, handle is random wood, pommel is a wheel nut next up the steel serpent this again was an off cut (from the other side of blade  ) the pommel is made from a piece of pipe, a rail spike head, a piece of flat shaped for jaw and tongue and two bolts for the teeth, cross guard is made from a piece of flat bar shaped to look like a cobra and finally the blade i was making that gave the off cuts for the other two swords my attempt at a talhoffer inspired blade again spring steel blade, round bar shaped and forged for cross guard and brass pommel (plan to cover the handle in banded black and purple leather) this was designed by talhoffer ans a backswording sword hence the sharpened protrusions and cross guard and pommel

thanks, means a lot coming from a professional fabricator did think of doing it in burgundy, first off will have to see what i can scrounge up  very well i thought  , scribed a set of lines down both sided of the blade with the same spacing, then used an angle grinder with a grinding wheel held vertically with the blade running perpendicular to the blade to make lots and lots of passes into the steel, then cleaned it up with a flap disk and belt sander, then flipped it over and repeated on other side taking care not to go too deep into steel, like this Attachments:

i beg to differ you can still temper it, it just wont harden if it has low carbon, hell you can temper chocolate and to the best of my knowledge that is non metallic  will simply make the steel tougher not harder

best bit of advice i heard was when using found steel "temper it in oil first if it wont harden then try water, since you can temper any steel its just a mater of the medium used to do it" i say go for it got nothing to loose

only so many ways one can swing a sword or move a body, humans havent changed shape dramatically over the past few hundred years so not surprised you see cross over

ive got my hands on some leaf springs once i straightened em and opened out the rings i realized one of them is huge, its six ft long 6cm wide and 8 mm thick (as i said huge ) was wondering what i could potentially make from it besides a claymore or chop it up into smaller blades, any suggestions? im open to weird ones

got "hand" welded to "arm" today and welded on the guard and pommel for the grip also welded the "nail" to the "hand" the "arm" is welded directly to the rebar handle, then i fabricated a collar from a piece of pipe to fit over it and filled it with weld to make sure there were no week spots in the shaft the "nail" is welded to each of the "fingers" individually on three sides (top and bottom and also from outside) stand up to serious bashing been pummeling my anvil block with it to see if it would fail, so far no probs, weighs in at two kgs or just under 5 pounds, next step is to bend the "fingers" to make then look like they are holding the "nail" Attachments:

how are you going to get the handle on if you have peened the pommel on already? wouldn't that make it harder to get the fit nice and tight ?

started on a project i have had in mind for a veeeeeerrrrry long time my interpretaion of a monks fist warhammer, decided to do it with a twist and make the hand look like a skeleton hand so far have shaped fingers and welded the hand together havent cleaned any of the welds up yet just painted it to get idea of finished look, plan to clean spike up to high silver shine, and going to use forge to bend fingers into correct shape easier than trying to cut shape and weld all the parts individually (i hope :? ) then going to weld "forearm " to a separate wider bar and wrap a collar round it to give it a look like it was an actual skeleton hand fused to a handle, looking pretty good so far ( i think) Attachments:
