I realized something that always bugs me about these. When they start grinding or working on a piece, they NEVER pad it in their vice to prevent additional damage and work. Very odd. Or...I'm just wierd when I do projects. why pad it your "restoring" it anyway can just bodge over any damage lol

yeah not much of a "restorer" this one he "restores" a scateboard by taking the wheels/trucks off the deck making a new deck out of pine then molding new wheels and putting the whole thing back together so only origonal part is the trucks, only thing i got out of knife vid was a bit better of an understanding how the blade mech works,

started on an axe based on the kraken from zombie tools, a big harpoon chopper hybrid knife and a bill hook for gardening (and fun), axe is 6mm plate oxy and angle grinder cut to shape, the knife started out as i think a paper guillotine blade i got at scrap yard, and bill hook is piece of 10mm thick flat scrap from work, lots more work to go yet lol

found myself watching a lot of restoration vids of late mostly old machinery but this one cam up on my feed, these style of knives have always intrigued me , mostly due to not knowing how the mechanism worked, this one didnt seem like a resto more like a reworking of the knife, still cool but not what i thought it would be when done, so my question is, is it restored or has it been remade into a "new" knife?, i know its a bit of the theseus ship paradox , but would like other imput as it doesnt look like i think it looked originally so to my mind it hasnt been restored merely remade

Not that it's a terrible design but my immediately thought was kunai, which is not a good look for a legitimate, military knife... yep thats where my mind went then here

Haha, well I don't think it's particularly terrible. It certainly gives off mall ninja vibes at first glance, but I don't really see anything going on with the design that would make it less effective. I'm not a big fan of finger holes either, but they are used on karambits and the martial arts systems that use karambits are pretty well respected. Cutout holes in the handle would reduce weight, which is important for a soldier. No guard - again, agreed, I prefer something to stop the hand sliding down, but I suppose the idea here was to go with a minimalist approach, and it wouldn't make the knife significantly less functional. they do have karamibit , not military issue, have trained with some guys who were karmabit trained scary to see, scarier to try to defend against, but doubt most people who purchase this type of knife are going to have that style of training, got to say they certainly have a style they are sticking to, skeletonised or holes in any part they can

Probably expensive for what you get. Looks like something mainly for getting someone off of you at grappling distance when they have pinned your rifle or handgun so you grab it off your chest rig and stab them with your off hand while backing up to get distance and re acquire firearms. Guess I'd need to know the weight & size and maybe go for the single edge tanto if large enough for utility tasks. couldnt find stats, but based on prices of other items in catalogue looks like it runs at 6 to 700 hundred dollars,

www.zubladeworx.com.au/featured_item/shrapnel-dagger/ was reading a recent article about the new armaments the Australian armed forces are getting ad saw a thing about their new knife so i had a look, then went ewwww followed by great the army is staffed by mall ninjas lol, cannot see how this is a good design for cqc the ring would be perfect for breaking fingers inserted through it, has no guard and a bunch of speed holes in the handle for no reason, just cant see what they were thinking apart from oooh coool, would take a kbar or fairburn over this any-day all i can see is potential slips onto the blade, big giant ring that can snag stuff, not my cup of tea lol

made a work mate a slingshot as part of my attempt to get better at wood working (also because he collects slingshots), have made him one previously out of steel which was a rubix twist handle with a split fork , so thought would have a go at a complicated slingshot, it was a double roller slingshot, based it off this this is what happened personally think its pretty funny, the amount of things ive had fail at testing is ridiculous, was glad it even worked once since ive no idea what im doing with a slingshot lol. oh well maybe ill make a steel version

stats overall length :68 cm, blade: 44cm long 13cm wide 9mm thick, handle 26 cm, pob 15cm from guard and weighs in at 2.3kg or 5.1 pounds lol, figure it wouldnt be problematic for the character race made for as they average 9ft plus so is probably a regular sized dagger for them

here is the wiki for how the magic system works pretty complex but allows for greater creativity
The centerpiece of Ars Magica is the system of Hermetic Magic devised by Bonisagus. It consists of 15 Arts, divided into 5 Techniques and 10 Forms. This is sometimes called a "Verb/Noun" system: the Technique is the verb (what effect the magic has), and the Form is the noun (the entity, object or substance that is affected or brought forth). These 'verb-noun' combinations can be used to cast both Formulaic spells (which are recorded in texts, are learned through study and mastered through experience, and have known, fixed effects) and Spontaneous spells (which a caster improvises with no prior knowledge other than the Arts themselves, giving the potential results greater flexibility but lower potency). Every apprentice (with a few Ex Miscellanea exceptions) is "opened" in all 15 Arts before fully joining the Order; each Art begins with a Score of 0 and a mage may usually only increase one of them during a season (see below). Each Technique is named by a first-person singular present tense indicative Latin verb: Creo ("I create") brings objects and substances into existence from nothing, or makes an already-existing target a "more perfect" version of itself (e.g. healing magic, as healed bodies are nearer perfection than wounded bodies). Intellego ("I perceive") detects or reveals, enhances a target's natural senses or conveys supernatural ones. Muto ("I transform") alters the nature of a being, object or substance, adding unnatural traits and/or removing natural ones. Perdo ("I destroy") decays, disintegrates or otherwise diminishes the target, making something a worse example of its kind (i.e. the opposite of Creo). Rego ("I control") involves manipulation of the target in any way that does not alter its nature, e.g. direct a target's movement, put a creature to sleep, or force a tree to bear fruit out of season. This is the main Technique used in spells of protection or 'warding'. Each Form is named by a singular accusative Latin noun: Animal affects "all natural living things that are not plants or humans, doing to animals what Mentem and Corpus spells do to people" as well as "things made with animal products" such as leather, wool, cheese, silk, etc. Since bacteria were unknown in medieval times, illness (e.g.) was considered either a form of possession or an imbalance of 'bodily humors'; thus, magic dealing with disease is relegated variously to Creo, Mentem and/or Vim effects. Auram affects lightning, wind and gaseous substances; other weather effects typically require an Aquam requisite (see below). Aquam is used for any liquid, with the exception of blood (which requires Animal or Corpus magic to affect); non-liquid forms of water will involve requisites (see below). Corpus (the incorrect declension Corporem was used in older editions) applies to the human body, making it crucial to longevity formulas. Herbam primarily involves plants, but applies equally to any organic matter, living or dead, that is not of animal origin. Ignem involves light and heat, and is heavily represented in the fire spells of House Flambeau. Imaginem (previously Imagonem) deals with images, sounds, and other sensory stimuli (thus is involved in most illusionary effects). Mentem deals with emotions, memories, thoughts and spirits. Terram involves earth and minerals: mere soil is the simplest target, while stone, metal and gems require progressively greater investment of spell levels to achieve the same effect. Vim ("power") involves magic itself, as well as demons (the overlap is not widely understood, but the fact that there is one is a significant obstacle to the Order's 'public relations', particularly concerning the Church).
one of our group used this sytem to kill an opposing mage by creating flames insides his lungs by creative use of a combination of creo/ignem

call of cthulu was my keeper/dm game of choice, super easy to learn ( all percentile ) main rule book had everything including starter adventures and great fun with the horror aspects, especially since most of our regular group were "combat wombats" in d and d, was good fun to see then have to run from most minor of things, never played cthulu by gas light (1890s) or modern, 1920s was our go to, remember sent whole group out on an investigation thinking they were on the trail of some big bad mythos monster only to have them discover several hours of game play and a full day of in game time that it was merely a feature of geology that led them to believe what they thought was some dire threat was harmless, thought they would be sooooo mad but everyone loved it, if you can play with the psychology of the game it gets good, of course have to avoid the running gag that all mythos books are bound in human skin (some are), did have one player "snap" from the psych mechanics and develop necrophobia had great time with that one lol (do you realize just how many "dead" items are in a city lol)
other faves were the world of darkness settings vampire, werewolf etc, and ars majica kind of more grown up version of d ad d with a super complicated magic system that allowed you to create spells on the fly, also big fan of shadowrun, unfortunately lent out my books and never got them back, and found in nomine interesting but too complex (play an angel/devil in the battle between heaven/hell), yeah yeah im a big ol nerd (like making copy's of fantasy swords hadn't given that one away lol)

Yea i could see your point. I always wanted to see some out there, but functional, designs, akin to a African throwing Axe or something,or even a kopesh. African inspired stuff would be cool, they have such bizare designs What it needed was gun blades, functional ones. That's how you win dunno about gunblades, but would love to know what the judging criteria was, african blades are super weird and would have tapped into the fantasy element better, still think we went too "normal" and that's why they weren't popular, there is a reason everyone wants conans sword or some mall ninja wall hanger they are conversational pieces, friend comes over and, wow whats that? , oh thats my such and such sword from so and so, khopesh blades now would be too game of thrones, my big gripe with modern (post lotr) fantasy swords is the all have the same weta workshop aesthetic, anything dwarvern is automatically hard geometric lines, elven its orchrist/sting in different fittings, there is a wealth of untapped historical blade forms but we still keep going back to the same pattern, sad we could have had some great new things come from this
