correct me if im wrong here, but i believe its a sword that ninjas use, lol ..... this one is super mythologized have heard everything from repurposed broken katana to ninjato to wakashi used in katana scabbard so other end could be storage and faster on draw, think there are as many stories as there are wanna be ninja schools (80s kid so totally wanted to be a ninja), growing up in martial arts world heard soooo many differing tales over past 40 years it would make your head spin, have to say would be a dead giveaway if they had a sword that was obviously different to any other sword being carried at the time, would be like carrying a Moorish sword in England during the crusades, gonna generate a few questions and not conducive to stealth or espionage ,imagine being stopped by local guard carrying ninjato and trying to explain "what my sword looks weird? no im not a ninja my sword smith just cant do curved blades", lol

find it interesting that this is only now being brought out into the light, im firmly in the camp of they viewed swords differently to what we do more like tools and less like status symbols, as such wouldn't have been as pedantic, my thinking is that they probably viewed them similarly to the way we view hammers today your not going to be too worried if its not super shiny, or if the heads a bit off line or it rattles as long as you can use it to get the job done, unless you are paying mega bucks for a hammer then you would view it differently, and probably be loath to use it as you wouldn't want to scratch it up and bang it around but your every day work hammer sure its a bit bent and the face is a little off but it works, what do you guys think?

did some more work today cleaned up, painted in first round of paint still have symbols and diamond to go then handle wrap
and just for semprinis n giggles started on a "dwarf" war-hammer made from an off cut of i beam clad in sheet steel still way early on this one but looks huge and appeals to my sense of humor as all the fantasy illustrations show dwarfs with massive hammers/axes

just for fun made the sword drizzt brought out of the underdark.......after he broke the blade again made from sheet steel, left coating on blade as its meant to be adamantine, wood handle with leather wrap , added gems to hilt since every drow ive read has the fashion sense of a magpie (shiny equals good), friend doesnt know this is coming,
and yes im aware swords dont break like this its more of a trope style blade eg lotr

had a thought whilst working on my latest build, why cant fantasy artists get weapons right even when given descriptions they still manage to get them wrong, since ive been looking at pictures of the character drizzt do'urden here are some of the ones i am thinking of "scimitars" with straight blades, handles way too big and some kind of weird khopesh style notch, thats without getting into the descriptions of the swords, cant understand how you can learn to draw fantasy art but cant draw a sword correctly surely they have some idea of what one should look like bizarrely the earlier art got closer to the mark before swords and sword info was more prevalent forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Drizzt_Do%27Urden?file=Drizzt_Hoh.png, this problem seems to go for movie swords as well they are all big clunky heavy or just plain wrong/dont match described, looking at you game of thrones warhammers, or am i just being picky , any weapons out there that chafe your sensibilities, for being way off the mark or not matching their cannon description/depiction Attachments:Drizzt_Hoh.webp (289.42 KB)
