I was browsing BCI's online catalog a few days ago and came across these. I'd completely forgotten about them, and upon seeing them still in the catalog, I'd hoped they'd brought them back as regular offerings. Alas, most of them were sold out/discontinued. I believe they still had the Castir, and if I'd had the money, I might have bought one. That design was my second-favorite behind the Danu.

I wish I had much better contributions to the art catalog. I was such a bunk artist back then, compared to what I been making now lol
I'm proud of my sword of Danu, however. It is still the sword I plan to be buried with. Easily my most prized possession

You oughta share it here sometime; I'm sure several people would appreciate it. Your Danu seems like a fantastic sword. Wish I could've gotten one.

I've thought of it, but I haven't been able to justify it. My art has come miles since then, I look at my last year's stuff and laugh. Digital has been treating me well. Danu looks and, in the mind, seems a lot smaller than it is. I dunno what's with it, when you actually hold it it feels like a short, wide, and stiff arming sword. Like it was designed to be a short sword for a giant. I accidentally created sting in a way proportional to my own height lol. I have an exact idea how bilbo probably felt when he found it

How long was the blade, again? 20 inches or thereabouts?
Edit: Looked it up. SBG store says 21.95". I've been finding myself liking 20-24" stuff lately, so it would have fit right in. Oh well...

My only regret about the design is I wish I requested it more narrow, it feels a bit like a small paddle lol. I'm very happy with the point though, it is somehow both robust and narrow. A true cut and thrust. Or perhaps more of a chop and thrust haha. The best sword for a zombie apocalypse that I own

this was a hell of alot of fun and got the creativity flowing big time, only complaints are the designs that won were not "out there" enough to be appealing to the fantasy sword market and not traditional enough for the purists, was hoping for some total Kit Rae or Boris Vallejo, frank farazetta type of thing to win, and the goblin sword ( sbg-sword-store.sword-buyers-guide.com/product775.html ) was less than impressive for the cost, suppose thats why i made my entry lol

Yea i could see your point. I always wanted to see some out there, but functional, designs, akin to a African throwing Axe or something,or even a kopesh. African inspired stuff would be cool, they have such bizare designs
What it needed was gun blades, functional ones. That's how you win

That's how you win dunno about gunblades, but would love to know what the judging criteria was, african blades are super weird and would have tapped into the fantasy element better, still think we went too "normal" and that's why they weren't popular, there is a reason everyone wants conans sword or some mall ninja wall hanger they are conversational pieces, friend comes over and, wow whats that? , oh thats my such and such sword from so and so, khopesh blades now would be too game of thrones, my big gripe with modern (post lotr) fantasy swords is the all have the same weta workshop aesthetic, anything dwarvern is automatically hard geometric lines, elven its orchrist/sting in different fittings, there is a wealth of untapped historical blade forms but we still keep going back to the same pattern, sad we could have had some great new things come from this

But you may be on to something In Danu's defense, it wasn't meant to be so similar to sting in its original conception. I was mostly drawing from Irish culture and myth when I created it and the concepts for tuatha de danann, which was more based around aliens than it was around elves To be fair, as well, I don't think sting looked exactly like it did in the movies, as it did in the books either.

Imagine if Danu had an "elder blade" similar to this design

Guess you can wind up an incredible heap of spaghetti with this! You could also harvest many grains at once! Gone are the days of harvesting grain a handful at a time
