Great score for the birthday.
That shotgun will last forever and lacks nothing in the field vs many other more expensive models. I hunted with them for years and never had anything but good experiences with them.

Contratz Chris. That's a great choice for a first shotgun. You will have untold hours of enjoyment with it.

congratz!! I'm an 870 guy for pumpers (or franchi for tactical) my only two complaints with the mossberg's i've used are 1. safety placement (older receivers that have been well used have a tendency to get way loose and change position walking through heavy brush. 2. every mossy I've ever racked felt like it had sand in the action compared to my "massaged" 870
but, that all being said, my buddy knocks down 23's and 4's at the trap house with his and he LOVES it. They really are a good DURABLE weapon that'll outlive any of us if you treat her well.

Congrats! One of my favorite shotguns was a Mossberg 500 Pump. I had a lot of days of fun in the field with it years ago. I still get a warm fuzzy feeling every time I shoulder one because of the memories it brings to me - days out in the field watching our dogs at work, the thrill of the flush and the joy of taking a bird on the wing.

Thanks guys. Since that photo, I have purchased an 18.5 inch barrel for it, and put on a Hogue pistol grip and fore-grip. If I get around to it I will post an update picture.

LOL, accessories,......no doubt. My lil lady never has a problem with my toys, but walks away whispering really bad things about the little "bits" that come afterwards  . I seriously got a chuckle from that post .

Here's an update to my shotgun: I think the next customization I may do to it will be an m4 style adjustable stock.
