I have been meaning to make something like this for awhile now, and I finally just got around to making it. I give you, "THE TENDERIZER"

That’s a wicked looking thing you have there. And it looks like you did a good job. As a practitioner with manrikigusari and nunchaku I strongly advise you to make another w/o spikes to play/learn with as what you have will make you your own formable enemy. No joke. That thing will whack you before you know it. It looks easy enough to use, but don’t be fooled. It will take practice.

Ouch! ... is what your gonna say when you inevitably smack yourself with it. But I think that more historic examples of flails usually have the haft longer then the chain, keeping the hand safe... well, at least the hand that is holding it. I think any other part of your body is forfeit. +1 to ya for sharing a fun looking project.

Oh yes, it DOES bike back. I have the battle scars to prove it.

Oh, I came across this while doing flail research and I thought it might help for Tender 2.0: The main thing I wanted to point out was the cross section that it shows in the picture. I think this would allow you to evenly space the "spikes" and give you a better coverage area. Also, in doing research, I've apparently corrected myself. There were also flails that had the ball down past the grip. I suppose hitting yourself in a bracer is preferred to mashing a finger. Nonetheless, you have made me want to build one now. A shame on you because I have... holy crap! I have 5 other sword projects that I've started and need to finish. LoL. Wait... I wasn't even counting the bare blades I have... or the spear.... ...man, I'm never gonna get these done. Do you plan on making a 2.0 version?

Maybe sometime in the future. I have more red oak, but it is a cut-down bo that I use as a jo occasionally. I do have more of the same chain, though. And plenty of bolts and screws and/or nails.

Very Nice While a mace or flail is not a sword, they can be easily had with a trip to your local hardware store and a bit of tinkering

Do not fall into false complacency with gauntlets. Nearly any part of the body can be hit. I say this from personal experience and viewing YouTube. Although on YouTube a head blow is generally seen. Ya, I’ve done that too. Thank goodness no spikes were involved. Head protection is an excellent idea. As well as a training piece that I mentioned earlier.

It's not at all doing anything for me, seriously?? is this for real? I mean no disrespect, you asked, and if this is for real, it is in serious need of refinement.

Well Kaos, no craftsman ever made a work of art on his first go. I doubt that Chris is wanting this model to be replicated and sold on Kult of Athena. Everyone starts somewhere and if you don't make stuff like this early on... well.... then it's just no fun!
I think "The Tenderizer" was kinda like the first sword I ever beat a copper pipe into. Sure if I stabbed someone with it, it'd break skin and probably kill them if I aim was right, but it was a beginning.

Aye, it is my first good weapon that ventures outside of the realm of blades. There isn't much that I can do to it besides maybe pretty up the handle a little bit.

Actually, if this were the apocolypse and you did have to kill something with that, I'd suggest rounding off the tips of the spikes. Don't sharpen them, LoL, that'd be dangerous! But just rounding them would help apply more blunt trauma to a smaller area. It also might help displace the energy from impact too. Who knows.
But I like it for what it is, a good start. I'm sure if you had the proper tools to forge out some spikes and peen them on, that you'd have done it.

Oh, believe me, had I wanted to make something much prettier, I would have. The whole purpose to this was to throw something together quickly and get satisfactory results. All it is is a rough looking novelty, and that is just fine to me; that was the whole point.

I personnaly like that weapon and the idea behind it ; a simple, deadly, quickly-made flail. Just be careful not to hit yourself with it... again... Oh others said that, nevermind

I'll again offer my apologies to any that took offense to my comments. It was late and didn't sound that snarky in my head. I meant no disrespect at all to ChrisRiley93.
