That is a quite curious object. I won't call it a 'sword' given the retractable blade puts it squarely in the 'sword-like object' category, but it is rather interesting once you get around that. Do you know what metals it's composed of? Also, what all are the scenes on that handle?

I have no idea of the metal. It looks to be gold in lay.. It is very heavy, so again not sure. I am sure there are metal testers that I can test the metal.

any chance you can post more detailed pics of the ornamentation other than the historic scenes? Do i see a lion, serpents? any other totems of note? religious imagery? masonic markings? I'm curious myself.

I don't know if this will help, but I saw a very fancy telescopic sword for sale once on Ebay, it was described as "an antique Chinese theatrical sword".
