Here's a pic of the tsuka on my mumei Shinto katana - it's wrapped in laquered leather ito Sorry about the size of the pic - couldn't find a larger one on my iPad.

One quick note about Cold Steel Bowies: the Natchez and the Laredo Bowie knives are NOT full tang - they're actually cable tang constructions. I've never owned one of these personally, so I can't comment on how sturdy they are or aren't. I'd go with any of the makers from this forum already mentioned. Check out these pictures: CS Natchez Bowie tang CS Laredo Bowie tang

I recently bought a custom Malatesta w/a peened pommel - couldn't be more pleased with it. Sonny was great to deal with, and the whole package was extremely well put together. Saving up some scratch to get some more when the time comes.

Can you take a picture of the mei (signature) under the tsuka? Also, how does the hada look? I'm also looking at pics on a phone, so I can't see all the details.

Thanks for the post - deceptive sellers/products like these should be pointed out (pun intended) so that potential buyers won't get suckered into buying things that aren't as advertised.

I think I'm about due for a new bokken. Have you looked at Kingfisher Woodwork's bokken? I bought an Aikido set (bokken, jo, and knife) from them a few years back, still almost in new condition even after repeated use.

2015 - looking forward to a few custom katanas by some of the sellers that have been mentioned recently (Huawei, Bugei, Hanwei), and also an H/T bastard bare blade to modify. I'd like to get a couple of Kiku knives, seeing as Mr. Kiku is getting along in the years. As for other knives, maybe an SnG Stryder, a couple of Hinderers, a CRK Pacific, a CRK Green Beret (7"), and a ZT 0392 (not released yet), and possibly a couple of Spartan knives, both fixed and folders.

I don't have anything from Huawei - all the previous posts about them and yours have me very intrigued. Congrats on your new sword.

Although I don't make knives, etc., Admiral Steel has great options and pretty decent prices.

The site won't display the discount until after you've placed the items in the shopping basket... BTW, congrats on getting your new sword!

Great cutting as usual. Nice to see you're passing on your skills to your son. Once my daughter gets old enough (she's 8), I'll train her to use (and respect) swords too - she currently has a shoto I made out of a broken bokken.

Nice review... I really like the Emerson Wave myself, but liike you said, does take practice to get it right. There's tons of vids on YouTube btw of people modifying knives into having a "wave" feature. Oh, I also have some Emerson pewter skulls if you want to keep your Emerson clip happy

The Bamboo Mat is currently $421.80 with the 40% off sale plus the SBG coupon code... if anyone has $ left over from the holidays, now's the time to grab one of these - incredible prices!

If it's any consolation, the graphic novel is 1000 times better than the movie. I also have it in my collection, but rarely watch it
