Hi all. I posted on the other forum about the licensed 47 Ronin Asano Clan Sword replica I picked up. This was a 1045 Carbon Steel blade, quiet sharp but has a crappy wire brushed Hamon, not to mention engraved with the collectors number so it makes it hard to polish. But this has spark my love and urge to collect more. I have been training with my Sensi with a Bokken, and want to move up to a more authentic usable sword. I was told the Huawei are a good quality Chinese made swords, so I've been looking at them. Was just wondering what you guys think of this: HIGH QUALITY SHINOGI ZUKURI HIGHHAZUYA FINISHED HISHI-GAMI CHOJI HAMON KATANA www.ebay.com/itm/280997359676?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649Description: ·Fully functional live blade Shinken Katana "real sword" ·Hand Forged,Clay tempered T10, Water Quenched,DH,high level Hand polished full length ·The edge hardness and resilient blade · Tameshigiri Polish,Visible Natural Prominent choji Hamon · Shinogi Zukuri with Geometric Yokote ·Iron Tsuba and fuchi, kasshira ·Full tang,Very tightly alternate & HISHI-GAMI TSUKAMAKI · Bamboo two Mekugi Peg ·Authentic handle black same ray skin · black Lacquered wood rings Saya · buffalo horn kojiri, koiguchi and kurikata · can be disassembled for maintenance · Comes with cotton sword bag I'm still learning about craftsmanship etc, though I am aware not to buy anything without a full tang . Thanks

Dude a similar thing happened to me after years of cheap wall hanger junk about 2 years ago I invested in a battle ready katana I bought a bushido raijin katana from swordsofmight.com its a low end battle ready katana but honestly I've caught the sword collector bug and am looking for a new katana I posted up on an earlier thread in looking at a ronin katana dojo pro model 13 to be exact or a hanwei ppk the huawei you posted looks beautiful though nice sword there

The one thing I just noticed look through the ad again. They state two Mekugi pegs, yet you can only see one in the pictures.
The other Katana's you can clearly see 2.
I know a lot of the tradition katana's only had 1 Mekugi peg, but just worried about the misleading ad.

That's one of their nicer swords, excellent wild choji hamon I dig the simple fittings as well but I personally don't like their version of a hazuya polish as it tends to reverse what a polished hamon usually looks like. They manage to essentially make the hamon disappear and it's only noticeable in contrast to the rest of the blade which is a grey tone. I have seen these polishes up close and the finer details and activity is invisible. You might be able to polish it and re-etch to try and bring out the details but you could try asking for the same blade with a standard tameshigiri polish instead. This is just a personal preference however and some people like it polished this way. Otherwise, it's a very nice looking sword. I wouldn't worry about the second mekugi not being visible, it's perhaps covered by the ito. Huawei is not known for falsely advertising the number of mekugi. -Josh

Thanks for that Josh. I've already messaged Jacky, I was told that they don't have the Saya in the picture and send 2 others to choose from. One was a straight black without the rings, and the other was a red, so I went with the black. From what I've been reading you don't want to customize too much as it can take a lot longer to get the sword. These are their "already produced" swords. I did read somewhere about Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish being used to bring out more of the swords detail and Hamon, Don't know how true that is, or if it can damage the sword. I came across another of these swords without the Choji Hamon: HIGH QUALITY SHINOGI HIGHHAZUYA FINISHED HISHI-GAMI TSUKAMAKI SHINKEN KATANA www.ebay.com/itm/HIGH-QUALITY-SHINOGI-HIGHHAZUYA-FINISHED-HISHI-GAMI-TSUKAMAKI-SHINKEN-KATANA-/271024398922?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f1a50224aSeems to have the same 1 peg design but a different Tsuba (which from what I see you can pick your own anyway).

Yeah, that one also has that reversed hazuya polish going on. The thing is for me, I like to see activity in the hamon and this style of polish they do tends to hide it plus, they charge more for it. It's a trend going around the ebay katana market but I personally don't get it. Mothers won't harm a blade if used correctly, it's actually one of the finest grit paste polishes out there. You would use it to try and remove the grey etching on the rest of the blade and then you could re-etch the whole blade to try and get some detail of the hamon to show up. Using mothers alone won't enhance any hamon details. I'd personally pick this one up -Josh

I think to get one mekugi, you would have to order it that way. 2 is pretty standard for them. It is not always easy to see them both in the pictures.

That one is nice too, I actually have it in my watch list too..lol.. It works out about $30 over my budget (around $530 Australian), but the wife will understand..lol. I'll probably end up getting it anyway..lol. Currently been practicing my cleaning/oiling techniques on the Ronin sword, the old Isopropyl alcohol and mineral oil has worked quiet well. I'm guessing that will continue to work the the Huawei sword too. Thanks again for all your help. edit: I ended up buying that sword, Jacky only had the 1 left.

yeh i trust hauwei i own two of there swords with another purchase in february where abouts in australia are you im qld Same here mate, on the Gold Coast. Was a little unsure of the import laws, but found out if the swords aren't class M its all good, and Katana's aren't class M, They are only concealed swords (like in a walking cane etc). I have to say Jacky has been so prompt in getting back to me, I'm impressed, even free Australian shipping. Not to mention this sword lives up to the Choji Hamon, I think this might of been a 1 off for Jacky, never seen a Hamon like it before.

Jacky only had the one for sale, most of the other swords there were a few available. It was the Hamon that drew me to this one.

I don't have anything from Huawei - all the previous posts about them and yours have me very intrigued. Congrats on your new sword.
