Indeed, I agree with chenessfan here. If you call it something then it should follow the rules, as that is what defines it. No use making a pocketknife and calling it a katana.

Have you decided which way you are going with the Ricasso?
In my opinion it is something that just will look a bit rubbish on a Seax. Ricasso's always remind me of SLO's and tatty knives that always seem to have one.

Looks about right. Comparing this sword to my other katana and nihonto I think it is just too light weight. Nice sword but hmmm, feels a bit wrong.
Anyways I think I will shorten the tsuka by an inch or two, which should help slightly push the POB out a little.

Hi all,
I have recently acquired a rather nice Hanwei Shinto, but I am not sure which version it is. I am aware that a while ago Hanwei went through a phase of re-releasing their classic katanas with XL XXL Elite Shingen versions... I can't find anything useful online that shows the difference between them all.
My blade seems very thin, not wide or deep, has a bo-hi, handles like an iaito.
Basically I am trying to find what kind of shinto I have.
Thanks in advance! :)

Try a different skin option. The header store image is a bit absurd as well and may be messing up tables (code) for some. Perfect, changing the skin worked! Thank you!! :)

Hi all, For quite some time the SBG forum seems extremely messed up. I have tried firefox and chrome but it looks terrible in either one. Is this something everybody else is experiencing? Screenshot attached. Attachments:

Nicely done. I have seen this done on a hanwei william marshal sword before except for that guy used shotgun pellets.
Anyways how did your POB change as a result of what you did?

Nice, liking the highlander katana, I have not seen those around for a long time... I wish I had a green destiny sword, so tough to find.

Is there a definitive length that these will be at? I kinda like a short viking sword!

That is a lot of money, but unfortunately it is impossible for us to give you advice on if its a safe buy as well.. you have given very little information.
Personally I wouldn't as being a UK person you will find it difficult to move on.

I am saving money now. Is there a rough ballpark figure as to how much these would cost?

Why wouldn't they sell? Your work looks pretty good so far and it is great that you are tackling some hard to do designs. If you could do a light one with a thin cross section I would be interested for sure. :)
With regards to the grips, I think if you drilled in some holes, people would be happy to self-mount them in wood.

Oh yeah, this tickles my fancy! How thin will you make this? I have seen a few historical ones in museums and they seem wafer thin.. sure lots of corrosion but super thin and light.

The problem I find with displaying a sword like this is dust. The dust sticks to the oil on the blade and leads to rust. For blades I have exposed to the air, they are coated in ren wax. Wouldn't recommend that with a good japanese blade though as you don't want that stuff in your saya or have a finely polished blade changed by the mildly abrasive nature of ren wax.

I just think that you guys are giving this way too much attention and time. I think you guys are suffering from confirmation bias and I don't see any point in this discussion.
Fake sword is fake.. move on

I think we can discredit this sword and move on now.

Can't use a gladius or falchion for utility uses though..
