I still haven't cut with them. Weather's been tricky. I dry handle them, and I really like them still. I think the falchion is my favorite.

Tactical tool belt! Combined with two baldrics with plumbatae and main gauche + gladius back carried. The dream of your neighborhood! Ha! That reminds me of my favorite John Ratzenberger movie: House 2--an 80's horror/comedy--you got to love on electrician that has a sword in his tool box.

Noooooooo...lol Let's not re-hash the 9mm/.45acp rebate here... Good, cuz I was just about to point out why .40 S&W is the clear answer. Answer, all of the above, due to ammo availability issues. Besides, different bullet weight and powder ranges (low velocity .40 or high velocity 9mm, for instance) can make all three shoot very much like each other. Nope. A .75 caliber Brown Bess with bayonet is the answer.

Regarding the need for a free hand, put a sling on all your long guns, thus giving the ability to open doors, grab things, etc... [/quote] It sounds like you have settled on using a shotgun which is a perfectly fine choice. I recommend a stock versus a pistol or bird's head grip. It will increase your efficacy 100 fold. Then train in using it and maneuvering in tight spaces. +1 to howler's sling suggestion. The other critical thing about a sling is that it will help prevent the weapon being wrestled away from you. If someone were to grab your shotgun, having a secondary weapon like a knife is a good idea. You can keep one hand on the firearm and rely on the sling to prevent losing it. Use the free hand to pull the knife and get control of the firearm back. I like small fixed blades. There are some especially designed for it like Kabar TDI or cold steel push daggers. More expensive ones are shivworks knives. If you are open to having more than one firearm, having a pistol like a DA action revolver as your secondary is good too. In the event of a struggle for the shotgun, you can keep your offhand on the slung weapon and draw and fire the revolver as close range. For that, something like a S&W 442 or Ruger LCR is a good choice. You can then have a blade as a tertiary.

It actually held up better than the Windlass English Warhammer and German Warhammer. The English WH had a huge burl in the wood though and broke right there. That is good to read, from my keyboard and screen it's easy to be disparaging and give critique, but reading that is stood up to about actual use and abuse better than some. I still think it could be improved some, but that can be said of a lot of things. If I remember correctly, the burl was right where the langets ended on the English WH--so it didn't have the benefit of that reinforcement. I think the long and deep socket on the original Tod based his on probably functioned much like langets to distribute force down the shaft. When I rehaft this hammer, I think I will make it shorter and perhaps pin the hammer head to the shaft too.

Rain turned to snow yesterday so it is a white Christmas eve in my part of Montana. It's supposed to be sunny the next 2 days.

I too hope all is well with PGandy.
Sometimes forum members go silent, and I wonder if they are ok. I am relieved to see a new post or get a message.

Very cool. If I owned that, every time I looked at some large object I would think, "I bet could grapple that."

It's raining on the Montana plains and foothills. Higher up there's probably snow. Last year at this time it was -30 F.
El Nino is bringing us a warmer, drier winter so far.

I think making scabbards out of the works of an Old Dutch Master is probably frowned upon. But what a flex! "Hey that's a nice DBK scabbard and all, but have you seen my Van Gogh?"

Earl w/half wire grip and Viceroy. Later changed the Viceroy to Landgraf after I picked up a Viceroy here when I got tired of waiting. I love the type XVII swords, the Landgraf and Sempach, but I haven't ordered one yet Would you mind telling me what appeals to you about them? The visual grows on me the more I look on the website, they look light and really pointy! Unique and underrated sword type I have a Sempach on order (May of 2022). It was the blade type that struck me. I love the combination of partial fuller and acute point. I am excited to handle the Sempach. The curved guard and pommel look amazing. I had a hard time choosing between it and the Landgraf as I like the cutouts on the Landgraf guard and pommel cross. But I also have a Warwick and Crecy so the Sempach adds something a little different to the collection.

Very tempted on that Baron. It appears that it is priced at the pre-increase price. I have a Baron on order though so I have to resist.
Tod's workshop also has a cool Baron scabbard in stock 20% off. It would be a beautiful pairing.
