I'm interested in the espada ropera. The only reviews I could find seem to be for an earlier version.

The bowie and cutlass look extremely similar to the CS 1917 stuff and the UC Honshu Frontier bowie. They are all in the same price range as well. Weird that they all make the same stuff at the same time.

I don't see why they felt they had to blacken the toothpick's guard. Lame. It looked better as polished brass, and would look even better on the dark blade.

At the risk of sounding like I'm promoting my classified's listing for the Battlecry Bowie . . . some observations:
I have the Bowie - never had the CS Bowie (1917?), but the blade shape looks almost identical. Differences I've noticed: - It has a notch at the 'forte' instead of a choil. - The butt/pommel section of the handle is more filled out, and has an additional angle, giving it a slightly less blocky/industrial look. - The guard is more symmetrical, straight with straight 'arms' at an angle, instead of curved (more similar to a Western W49). - The finish is more rustic. - simpler, but decent leather sheath.
It's actually pretty cool, I might just keep it an mod it.

So weird that UC, CS and Windlass do the almost exact same bowie and cutlass at exactly the same pricepoint. The battlecry also should have a "sandwich" grip while the other 2 have a "hotdog bun" wood panel, no idea if that makes a difference.

I wonder if the battlecry bowie's guard is tack welded on like with the cold steel 1917. Seeing that on the cold steel bowie was just disgusting.

The battlecry also should have a "sandwich" grip while the other 2 have a "hotdog bun" wood panel, no idea if that makes a difference. I suspect that Windlass manufactures the blades for the different brands (certainly for CS). The Bowie is full profile tang. The nice thing is that the tang slot in the guard appears to be the full width of the tang - allowing the guard to actually fit over a true full tang. The angle at the butt/pommel allows for a 'hook' for better retention while swinging or chopping while allowing the guard to fit over it. I.e. the tang doesn't widen. The Western W49 Bowies are assembled this way. You see a lot of production Bowies with non-integral guards - where the butt-end of the tang appears to be wider than the rest of the grip. They achieve that by sliding the guard over a stick tang, then welding a false 'full tang' of metal around the stick tang, then attaching the grip scales. It may still be strong, and hold up to use, but seems to me to add a lot of unnecessary weight to the grip, without adding a corresponding amount of strength or durability.

I can't see any welds - if there are, they're hidden under the grip scales. Tangent: I don't know if it's tack welded, but the guard on the Ontario SP-10 Raider Bowie is welded on. It seems super strong, if you watch all the reviews of people beating the heck out of that knife. So, seems like a viable construction method if done correctly.
