everybody needs a hobby, his is StumpThumping (maybe someone could write a song about that?) Maybe I should burn "Stump Thumper" into one of my hammer's handles.

I don't consider this the maker's issue. I chose to stress test the hammer by repeatedly hitting a stump. It's my personal therapy. LOL.
I've broken windlass hammers this way (their wood is generally bad). I've broken waxwood. I've broken plenty of hickory hawk handles because I throw them. The only thing I haven't broken yet is the cold steel war hammer and the windlass English warhammer that I rehafted with oak.
Although I know some customers would demand a replacement. One of my pet peeves are the one star reviews on tomahawks and axes because the user broke a handle throwing.

The description says this is a piece scaled down from a staff weapon 20 cm wide. My hammer head is 14 cm wide (mouth to tail) and 14 cm tall so the original is quite a bit larger. Here is a picture of the original: todcutler.com/en-us/collections/medieval-daggers-and-large-knives/products/hammer-2 You can see where the haft goes into the socket, the edges of the socket overhang the haft which maybe prevented them from cutting into the haft upon striking. If the socket is very deep then it would distribute more the force of the blow over a greater area. When I remount this one, I will try smoothing and widening out the edges of the socket as suggested. I will reuse the same haft so it will be shorter. I have quite a bit of Tod's products. I have no complaints about the steel used. I have a long seax I have used for cutting brush, trimming logs, and other chores, and it has held up fine. He has a good Youtube channel where they test his items like rondels and they hold up. I guess I view it as whatever steel they use, it's likely better than what was used in the originals.

The socket of the head is about 2.25" deep. It broke after multiple swings. The head was attached solidly to the haft with no play. The wood used (ash) is a nice piece with long grains and no knots.
The head is very heavy. Based on my ages ago engineering classes, I think that all the stress from the strikes was borne at the point where it broke. I think an advantage of a war hammer with langets is that the langets distribute the stress from a strike down the haft to where the langets are attached. I have done the stump test with other hammers with langets without issue.

Hi.
Yeah, SFI has been very silent and MyArmoury has not accepted new members for over 2 years. That's why I landed here. Most new users go to facebook or reddit. Seems only old people use forums now.
Old? Dang. I guess you're right. Although, I do look at r/swords now and again. Most of the stuff on there is my friend/dad/brother/grandpa gave me this [wall-hanger SLO] sword, how much is it worth? The answer is usually tree-fiddy.

Up for sale, a Balaur Arms Single Edge Viking Sword. Sharpened by KOA. $250 shipped. PP F&F or Venmo. I got it second-hand. When I got it, the upper part of the scabbard had some super glue or something dripped across it between the first and second riser. I removed it but it took some of the leather finish with it. I re-dyed the area and then applied a beeswax leather treatment to the whole scabbard. So, if you look close, you can see a line there.

I was doing some stump testing with my Tod Cutler Dragon Hammer and it broke where the head attaches to the shaft. I'll have to remount it a bit shorter.

Very cool. The title made me think of this oldie:
BCS DECLARES GERMANY WINNER OF WORLD WAR II US Ranked 4th
After determining the Big-12 championship game participants the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.
"Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against the US and Russia; however considering their entire body of work--including an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule--our computers deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking."
Questioned about the #4 ranking of the United States the BCS commissioner stated "The US only had two major victories-- Japan and Germany . The computer models, unlike humans, aren't influenced by head-to-head contests--they consider each contest to be only a single, equally-weighted event."
German Chancellor Adolph Hitler said "Yes, we lost to the US ; but we defeated #2 ranked France in only 6 weeks." Herr Hitler has been criticized for seeking dramatic victories to earn 'style points' to enhance Germany 's rankings. Hitler protested "Our contest with Poland was in doubt until the final day and the conditions in Norway were incredibly challenging and demanded the application of additional forces."
The French ranking has also come under scrutiny. The BCS commented " France had a single loss against Germany and following a preseason #1 ranking they only fell to #2."
Japan was ranked #3 with victories including Manchuria, Borneo and the Philippines.

I wonder how hard the fake is. Is it too hard, is something wrong with the heat treat or the steel? The cheap chinese knives seem to try to exceed each other in hardness and the non-knife people fall for it. "This one is 60HRC, that 63HRC so it has to be better." I don't have anyway of testing it, but it seemed very brittle.

Both are great looking blades. It would be a hard choice between the elegant type XIV and the bold clip point of the falchion. How's the edge on both? I've heard the "sharp" blades from Tod Cutler need some work to be sharp enough. I think they are serviceably sharp. They will definitely cut when swung but not shave any hair off my arm. Maybe I'll try some cutting this weekend on water bottles.

Great review. Nice to see them moving to the more historical market. Although the Honshu logo is obnoxious. Just a small cross or a stylized H would fit the theme better.

I purchased a Tod Cutler Type XIV Medieval Arming Sword and a Clip Point Falchion These are two types I've not owned before. Overall, I think they are a fantastic value. The fit and finish on the swords is great. The blades are really well done and the hilts too. I really like the grips. I like the falchion best. The clip point has always been my favorite type, and this really swings with authority. The arming sword is very nimble and handles great. The scabbards are well-done too. They do not hold the swords tight enough to hold them upside down. I may add a spacer to tighten the fit. The leather work is simple but beautiful. The buckles are robust and the swords hang nicely off the waist. These scabbards are slightly chunkier than Tod Workshop opfferings but of course priced much less. I ordered green for the falchion and red for the arming sword which is a nice "rusty" red. Compare it to a Tod Workshop red: Attachments:

I love Benchmade too. Spyderco and BM are my favorite pocketknives. I feel naked if I leave home without a pocketknife.

I have the Windlass 1796 LC, and it is great. Leaps and bounds above my Cold Steel 1796.

I really like my kailash mutiny. I also have a Ka-Bar Becker BK21 and an OKC kukri. Those are great blades too.
