Great review - like StevenJ, not a huge fan of viking swords, but this one does look nice. Not sure about the copper furniture though - it looks a *bit* over done if you ask me. What is that stuff though? Is it actual copper, or some strange concoction? Material aside, the workmanship on the furniture engravings, as well as the fit and finish, is quite impressive for the price point. Thanks for sharing

Mainly time and effort. Also the fact that I enjoy swords for their history, whereas martial arts emphasize physical activity, mental fortitude, strategy and precision - all of which are admirable pursuits, but don't really connect that much with the concepts which draw me to swords.
Its like why people who like gardening don't necessarily like cooking. Sure they both involve plants and vegetables, but for different reasons. I may be more interested in the training aspects if they incorporated more history - both about the design of the weapons, as well as specific examples and context as to the use of various methods, but that may make it less appealing for the more physical-minded students. Its a ballance

I think it's some form of aluminum. Some variants had brass. Both were cool :p

"NAPOLEONIC WARS 1813 FRENCH CUIRASSIER SWORD; KLINGENTHAL W/ CORRECT HALLMARKS; A MUST SEE NEAR PERFECT REPRODUCTION. LET THE PHOTOS DO THE TALKING FOR THIS GEM - THE WEIGHT, LOOK, AGE, AND FEEL OF THE PIECE ARE ALMOST PERFECT - PRICED TO SELL THIS IS A MODERN REPRODUCTION OF THIS CLASSIC FRENCH SWORD100% CUSTOMER SATISFACTION" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ October 1813 should be a flag, even without the very clear ad copy listing it as a reproduction. A trait not so unlike the Ames light cavalry marked in block letters dated 1862. The Knubley marked scabbards on five ball spadroons, on and on. $400 seems a bit steep for someone elses aging work. Some of the spadroons have fetched twice that. Yeah, score one for not reading carefully. Was about to sleep, but saw this one ended soon...

Otherwise a sword is just an impractical sharp stick to keep in the closet. I kinda disagree, I think they can be interesting on their own without historical background. I agree with you there - I personally like their history, but studying them from the purely engineering or martial arts perspective is perfectly legit as well - so long as you enjoy them and don't treat the, as a toy, everything's fine. If you are really interested in something, people can tell. Most people will respect that

Might be a composite. There is an Austrian with such a blade, one side flat. Cannot remember what year. Must be before 1860, because of the battle and the story. Or the story will fall through. The straight M1822 has a fuller on both sides. Could be an M1854 hilt too by the way. Do you see now what a good friend I am Afoo? Dave cannot stand this aggravation, at all. He is reading. Books. Lots of them. What shall I say, an easely disturbed poetical and delicate nature like Dave, this tender lilly of the field, or Goethes ,,Roslein auf der Heide'', should be protected against these things. Indeed, though when he gets distressed, he may start selling his sharp objects, much like how a porcupine sheds its quills. Maybe this is my plan all along >:D I thin kit has a fuller on both sides - I can ask, or we can wait for pictures to come out tomorrow. I am away for a week starting tomorrow, but let me know how this adventure plays out

Reply from seller:
"Will post some Pictures tomorrow. Blade has a large fuller."
UPDATE - Further clarification:
"One large fuller"
One large fuller on a pallasch? Maybe a straightened 1822?

I asked as well just for kicks - maybe if we fill their inbox with requests they might find it worthwhile to put up some more pics - demonstrates that there is a broad interest in seeing that blade!
