I stumbled on SBG while researching a purchase and got some great info. I have some Viking collectables (helmet, shield, axes and a cheap sword) but I really want to get a real sword. The one I have is fantastic as a decoration, but I'm sure it wouldn't hold up if sharpened and used even lightly. This is what I have and for the price it's a nice wall hanger. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SE70017&name=Viking+5-Lobed+SwordI have read a lot of good information on SBG so I sort of know a little about what to avoid, but my budget is also limited. I was looking at getting this sword. I'm not sure of the manufacturer but it's from KoA and it's a more accurate Viking reproduction with the blunter tip and wider fuller. I'd like to be able to use it for light use or a burglar . www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=VSW38S&name=The+Garth+-+Viking+SwordDo you think I'd be throwing my money away on it? Anyone familiar with the manufacturer's logo? Thanks for any help and for approving my account on the forum.

Anyone familiar with the manufacturer's logo? Wulflund. For that money, I'd get the Tinker Viking. Don't think you be throwing money away on this, but I think the Tinker is better for about the same price. If after a blunt sword, rather than a sharp, the Hanwei practical is half the price. The diamond-section tip (past the end of the fuller) can be made lenticular easily enough. But the balance might be a bit funny for a Viking sword, with a POB within 3".

Thanks for the info. I found the Garth sword on Wulflund's site. I was looking for a sharp sword as opposed to blunt. Was this the Tinker you were referring to? kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SH2426I'll probably be adding more to my collection at a later date so I might end up with both eventually.

The Trondheim is a nice sword. Not historically constructed. On the short end of the scale. Don't know how well it would take abuse. But it's pretty and nicely balanced. Value for money is a different story (but also in the eye of the beholder); I wouldn't recommend it at RRP, but perhaps OK when much cheaper (like at KoA).
I don't like the leather facing on the insides of the guard and pommel. IIRC, those are put on first, and then the grip cover, so removing them and leaving the grip covering on would leave small gaps.

It is a bit short but it's just looks so beautiful, at least to me. It's actually $40 cheaper at the SBG store. There are just so many choices. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the Tinker. The Hanwei Godfred is nice too and the Sticklestad. I'm not much into the suede look, though. Watch what will happen, a year from now I'll probably have them all.
