Before sending off my Shinto katana to the NHTK-NPO shinsa in 2014, I cut a double tatami roll since I assumed (incorrectly at the time) that it was a ShinShinto. Fast forward after the shinsa results and I would NOT do that again. Sure, the katana is very well cared for/stout, but only use it now for Iaido katas. While it remains in my custody, it won't cut anything again. It's the 1st nihonto I ever owned and will be passed on to my daughter in due time.

It is a very beautiful sword, and one of my best selling/most requested DSA's... thanks for the mini review. Hope you do a full blown review for SBG members.

I wonder how many vendors out there do the same thing? Shame that they can't just provide the item asked for and instead have to resort to shameful/possibly illegal tactics to get more $ out of people. Thanks for spending your hard earned $ and doing this test for the benefit of the community.

What I read recently was that the most likely culprit is China, and that they were searching for security clearance/access levels. One thing you might consider doing is changing ALL of your passwords and enrolling in a credit monitoring service (the gov agency should provide free access to those affected) at the very least. Next thing we know bill, you'll be posting FS adds about Oakleys and RayBans, seeing as that's what happens when someone's accounts have been hacked. Lol. In any case, hope things get sorted out.

That doesn't really matter - what does is that you're being there for your little one and your significant other... good luck to your family.

bill, what I've heard, it's (mostly) Fed employees that have been affected by the breach. Hoping you get your stuff sorted out ASAP by the gov.

If you haven't heard, there was a recent security breach in which the hackers stole info from over 21.5 million people. If you think you could be one (no one has been informed if they've been affected yet), you can check for more info here. This is especially true for people that have gone through background checks/finger printing since the year 2000 www.opm.gov/cybersecurity/

It really depends on the situation AND the state/municipality you're travelling in. In most cases, it could be considered a concealed weapon, so it would have to be in a lockable case imho. I carry my iaito to class in it's decorative sword bag, but should really carry it in a case to be on the safe side. Here's a website that might help you determine what's best in your situation blogs.findlaw.com/blotter/2014/02/is-it-legal-to-carry-a-sword-in-public.html
