Let me change mine to a more period blade.... Coming in at $194 at todays exchange rate gives me money left over for a buckler. If the AT 1315 counts... that's a great choice too. ![](http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/6103/r001b13ebae5fho7.jpg)

OK Marc... MORE INFO! MORE INFO! Who made it and how does someone in the US go about getting one? Jan Motycka is the maker... I believe they are machine cut, like ATrims... They of course cost shipping , a fee also for sharpening. Here is my invoice Page is here.... www.sword-gur.com/

That comes out to about $260 US, if Google isn't lying to me... Not bad at all. But when you say sharpening...I assume this is similar to the sharpening service some retailers offer for, say, Windlass? In that the sword starts blunt and is then given a bevel, rather than made sharp to begin with? Where is this guy based? (I haven't had a chance to check out the website...phone only allows one window of IE. ![:(](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) )

i'd have to go with my windlass ventian. unlike some windlass models the hilt config is tough and solid as hell.(peened) all the windlass blades ive owned have been stiff sturdy and rock solid...it can take a lot of punishment not to mention the double fuller and sweet taper!

They are definitely machined unedged , but so are ATrims... the bevel quality is unknown as of now.. I let everyone know when I get mine...

Those Red Gur swords look phenominal! I can't believe for that price he is handforging (not casting) the pommels and guards. Those swords look alot better than <insert high priced manufacturer of your choice here> entry level models. I am really digging the G003 (the name is Sword (lol), but it has a ringed guard).
Does anyone out there have any experience with Gur swords?

I have approached Jan about his willingness to participate in a bulk order for a SBG special project. If he is willing to do this I'll work out the details and start a thread... a spotlight thread if mods wil cooperate.

since the question was "your choice of sub-$300 European medieval weapon" I would be very tempted to go for the Windlass black german mace I reviewed. but if we are talking about a sword, then for sure the V.A. Custom Tuned. I'd have to find some sort of shield though. . . hmmm.
oh, I think I could be counted in on a gur-sword SBG project. their stuff looks pretty darn good to me.

In that age? First of all I need to run and hide ^^ Next - I'd be in desperate need for a light and fast sword. So I might have a small chance of surviving with my lightweighted 2.3 lbs Hanwei "Lionheart" which is fairly light and rather short so I can run with it and if in need can swing it more than once.

I've been doing a little pondering on this.
I think the best option for anyone would be to pose as a deaf mute and pray on the pity of a monastary until they could get a grasp on the language - which would probably take upwards of a couple years. In that time, their immunity, diet, and lifestyle could adjust accordingly. If you were lucky, you've retained enough modern knowledge to begin a craft of some sort that could be useful - I could leatherwork, do carpentry or masonry, play music, make mail, hunt, steer a plow, or slay dragons (lol).
Keep the sword hidden nearby in case someone decides to plunder your monastary though.

And that's when you become the fabled and well-prophesied Battle Monk of Albion, hailing down righteous death as the Left Hand of God!
All humor aside, that's a good plan. Hopefully you can play a deaf mute very well, though your instincts might betray you.

Given the year is 1100 AD, and the fact that I would not want to stand out as something out of place, that pretty much requires a single-handed cut-oriented sword. I'm not aware of any medieval thrust-oriented swords from Type XV onward existing at the time. Out of period...oh definately...but there was no restriction that said the sword HAD to be period matching ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) . And the later designs gives me an advantage and I'm taking it hehe.

I know that I'm a wimp, so I just wanna "fit in" and hope no one wants to challenge me for my gear, since just about anyone walking around with a sword then would probably "clean my clock." ![:'(](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/cry.png)
