First up, the cut that started it all: Serge's famous flip-top bottle:
there's an on-going contest to reproduce this cut so if you ever do it make sure you get it on video and turn it in for lots of goodies.
here's my favorite personal cut and yes that bottle was empty and not stuck down with anything other than gravity.
Kenpachi does a sweet combo of perfect silent cuts. no funky freak accident to try to recreate here, just darned good swordsmanship.
Here's RicWilly catching a bit on the tip of his sword. try to reproduce THAT cut! seems contest-worthy to me!
here's one from Slavia. Cutting with a blade you made and one that appears to have a real hamon is definitely cool. funny, you don't look a thing like your picture
Shooter Mike, our local western swordmaster, takes a trick from the Japanese playbook in an impressive display of cutting prowess.
Tim Spader cuts through a 3+ INCH stick of bamboo the rest of us just bounced off of using his trusty Castile "Siren"
Randy, AKA Morpheus shows off his matrix-level skills. Try to remember: there is no bottle. . .
now THAT'S classy!
Billiam must have gotten this jug from Australia because it has boomerang properties. presenting the "boomer-ring"
Fatecaller demonstrates why the Scotts didn't mind being out-numbered on the battlefield: that's 13 dead milk jugs in just 1 swing. if this isn't cool I Don't know what is.
BIG SWORDS RULE!
Brenno, Brendon of the Alders however you know him, you must know he makes his own swords and they are beautiful and good. Honestly any video of Brenno cutting with one of his own swords is a cool thing but in this video we can also admire his great strength as he whips about a 6 pound sword like it weighs nothing as well as his ability to turn his target into a weapon with which to knock out the evil camera. it's like he's a super hero. but enough of my babbling, enjoy:
This video shows not only a very cool and impressive cut at the end but is a work of art in itself. the music works for this video better than just about any other I've seen. did you notice one of the yells is timed perfectly with the big cut? I did and it's way cool. the cool cutter is the much loved Jonis known here as Menukisan who is the founding father of the United Backyard Cutters of Youtube fame.
Can you believe he made his first cut only 8 months ago? speaking of his first cut, we have that on video too and it is by all rights very cool. ok, this is not merely his first cut on tatami, this is his first cut. period. my first cut was nowhere near this cool, my first cut on tatami was not this cool, heck I've done a lot of cuts RECENTLY that were not this cool. so let's give credit where credit is due and put up the double header for Jonis.
anyone want to meet this guy in a dark alley? anyone?
Shooter Mike returns to the Gallery with another impressive display of skill, speed, and agility. I also like his unusual choice of sword. Go MIKE!
Here's abghari828 making an awesome double cut on stacked bottles. notice that he cuts the BOTTOM bottle first. I haven't seen that before. VERY COOL!
Forumite Hiroshi mows down an impresive line up of plastic foes without missing a single swing. this is so cool I can even forgive the UBC plug
RicWilly expands on his signature move and enjoys a light snack. this was just too much fun to not be cool.
Kenpachi316 continues to demonstrate his superb cutting skills with this short but beautifulset of cuts.
Hiroshi Returns to the coolest cuts gallery by recreating one of my own coolest cuts: the silent cut on an empty soda bottle. this cut requires superb edge alignment. so far this is only the second time I've seen this done. enjoy:
here we have shortyrose5 (hiroshi's wife) swinging her very first sword for the very first time, and wouldn't you know it, it's cool.
While cruising Youtube I found a video by Forumite Oni. you want to talk about a cool double cut, this is IT. check this out:
DJMahoney shows us her best side. I'm not sure which one it is but we get to see them all in this awesome Gumdo-helicopter cut that lands so smooth the top stays in the jug. milk jugs may be easier to cut but getting one like that on the fly is a very Cool Cut indeed. great Job Debbie!
as an update to my personal favorite cut, this is it. it's pretty tough to cut mugen dachi tatami when wrapped around bamboo but to cut it so smoothly the top stays in place is very special to me. well I'm pretty darn proud of these cuts and I think they are cool so here they are:
Forumite Veldruk came out of nowhere with a cutting video to make Wile-E-Coyote jealous and Rube Goldberg proud.
maybe if the coyote's gizmos worked this well he could have caught the Road Runner.
Forumite budodeshi demonstrates an amazing ability to control not onlyhis sword but anything attached to it.
Forumite abghari828 pulls off a great double cut these are always cool, who doesn't love hitting the double? great cuts abghari828!
Lancelot Chan is an amazing man. not only has he overcome rheumatoid arthritis through the study of Buddhist teachings but he has also learned how to easily wield one of the most cumbersome swords on SBG. the Deva Slayer, as Lance calls it, is 4.75 lbs with POB at 7.625 inches if the weight doesn't seem too bad to you think about that point of balance for a minute. ok it isn't rediculous, Tinker did do a good job making it, but it is certainly a massive blade with a very distant POB. swinging this thing around the way he does on a roof-top somewhere in the middle of Hong Kong has led me to call Lance "Hong Kong's Hercules" and to suspect he may have super-hero powers and a dark cape and mask hidden somewhere in his apartment. so check out this action as Hong Kong's Hercules swings the mighty Deva Slayer! S L A S H !
RicWilly and MdBruce had a little get-together the results were phenominally cool. silent cuts on water bottles are wicked cool especially when they are the small 20oz kind but this is the first time I've seen more than one silent cut on the same 20oz bottle, simply amazing. here's a highlights reel:
speaking of how cool RicWilly is how about this: the story here is Ric was in a discussion about how a sword with a solid metal hilt would not slip in battle when covered with blood and gore. so what does Ric do to demonstrate the point? Oil! on his hands and on the hilt and cutting! I guess he's now "Slicwilly"
in spite of protestations that he isn't cool Marc Ridgeway shows that he actually is pretty cool with a pair of videos showing some very nicely executed combo cuts.
[/quote]
Lancelot Chan returns with a demonstration of Chinese swordsmanship. you JSA guys may think he's doing something wrong but he isn't. The Chinese use some very different body mechanics than JSA and that alone is pretty dern cool so check out Lance's moves:
Forumite Budodeshi was holding out on us! shortly after posting up his last video of awesomeness I discovered this hidden gem where he demonstrates how to cut a piece of paper on the fly. paper is hard enough to cut when you hold it and slide it down your blade never mind suspended on one edge but totally free-flying? now THAT is cool cutting. BEHOLD:
Brand-new forumite Charlz not only just got his first sword but filmed his first cut ever and you know what? the video is pretty darn cool. he shows a level of enthusiasm that many of us feel but very few of us can capture. for that if nothing else this cut is cool, but you have to admit he did a god job on his first cuts. cool indeed!
Charlz 40 caliber! the man is a nut! he put a CAMERA on his HEAD! and cut! this guy lights me up, I love the things he does here's the HEAD CAM CUT:
OK mr. 40-Cal you need to raise the bar to get a third one here or this will become the Charlz 40-cal collection. you forumites need to stop relying on me finding these things and submit stuff like this. I almost missed this one. makes me wonder what has slipped by me.
Forumite Muerteblack is starting to challenge the tasks of master Isao Machi, just watch this video. A flying pea, really? dude! True, he isn't a match for Machisensei but you gotta admit: it doesn't get much better than this ladies and gents!
The cool police got a hot tip early in the morning and upon investigation discovered that our own Forumite Greg (Veldruk) had been caught red handed in an exibition of cool cuts to put even the mighty bottle-slaying Ric Willy to shame.
the evidence:
BUSTED! that was cool!
Your Honor, I would like to add another charge of flagrant coolness in cutting to be considered by the court. here we see forumite Greg (Veldruk) displaying ridiculous amounts of cool as he cleanly slices through 22 water bottles in a single cut.
the verdict: COOL in the first degree!
Forumite Chiburi shows the big bad wolf how to REALY blow through a house made of straw as he slices easily through a 7 mat roll of Hanwei tatami. SEVEN!
here is the re-uploaded to youtube version:
if you want to see it on vidler and leave comments for Chiburi here's a link to his original:
www.viddler.com/explore/sanjoseHKD/videos/46/
I'll huff and puff and KESA GIRI your house down!
Here's the latest from Ricwilly. I honestly don't know what to say about this one but WOW!
the S.W.O.R.D. game has produced the greatest amount of cool cuts in one place that SBG has ever seen but even amidst the massive amounts of cool produced there are still cuts that stand out and this is one of them:
Forumite Blake is obviously an evil, EVIL, BAD!, but very cool cutter. man I went through about 2 full cases of water trying to replicate this cut and even then I didn't do it as well, as smoothly, or as cool. great job Blake!
there's an on-going contest to reproduce this cut so if you ever do it make sure you get it on video and turn it in for lots of goodies.
