New product, current production, freshly delivered by UPS right to the field of battle. No used items or eBay finds allowed. Please elaborate on what model and why you chose as you did.
I will start:
I'd chose (as far as my current experience goes) the Valiant Armory Norseman sword. It's built like a brick outhouse, seems to keep a decent edge, and is fairly fast, though a little on the heavy side.
Your choice?

Well, my collection right now is woefully small... so my experinces with quality swords is limited. That said, from my current experince, I'd go with a Gen2 sword. Either my Chaos sword (since I have handled it and cut with it, I know it and would be comfortable with it) or maybe a Black Prince, as I have heard good things about it, it is now lighter and by all accounts is VERY solid. As my collection grows larger my opinion may change. ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I'd go with the KC warsword, it's a close choice between it and the KC teutonic. They have both held up well and come super sharp. The warsword gets the edge because it appears to be a bit beefier and I can still get two hands on it if need be.
"Edit" My apologies, after checking KC'a site it appears they raised their prices and my suggestions are now a bit over budget.

I almost chose the Gen2 Maintz Gladius because its such a wicked little cutter. My swordsman's skills are middling at best, but with my military and law enforcement background, a short blade and grappling are my best survival option instead of engaging in sword play with a skilled warrior. I'd avoid contact with everyone until I got a fix on exactly what I was going to do and how I could avoid being suspected of anything other than being your typical medieval pauper.
Knowing that a good sword (or what a medieval warrior saw as a good sword) has a huge amount of resale value - I'd probably trade it for clothes, a long bow, a hunting dirk, and perhaps a donkey. LOL.

The Gen2 mainz would be a good choice. I considered the shorties but opted for something with similar reach for the time given. If I could bring an extra it'b be a gladius.

i would go with with gen 2 just because of the fact now they handle a bit better and they are TOUGH and they are pretty sharp but if i had to choose a model i would pick the black prince or maybe the lucerne and yes i know there basically the same sword haha but i think it would be sort of cool to wake up in that era...at least for a short wile until i had to ACTUALLY fight someone then i would most likely be screwed

I'd take a paul chen kaze. Simply put, its a katana that has a reputation of being well made and really all I know are katanas and wakizashis for melee.

This goes against the question, but if I awoke to find myself on a 1100 AD battlefield, I'd grab whatever was lying around and go with that. Although, what I'd pick would depend pretty heavily on where I was, too... Of course, if I knew I was going and had to pick from what I have...either my Hanwei PK or AT 1315 (which, to be fair, isn't a sub-$300 sword...even though Mr. Trim was good enough to make a short run of them for $300 for the SBG...) depending whether I was bound for europe or Japan. Anywhere else I'd go without. The most important thing is not to stand out (as though a six-foot blonde caucasian speaking English wouldn't stand out in 1100 Japan or most of Europe, unless I just shut up. ![:-X](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png)

I'd have to go with the Gen2 Knightly Riding Sword. It's light and fast and comes closest to duplicating the feel of the fencing gear I'm used to.
My guess is I'd end up dead in the first encounter. But, it hardly matters. Since I don't have any immunity to the germs and viruses of the era, I wouldn't last more than a week anyway.

From my experience, I'd have to go with the Valiant Armory Custom Tuned Practical Arming sword. It's fast, it's durable, it cuts great and handles beautifully. It's the poor man's AT1315.

Gen 2 Lucerne after a reshaped grip. There isn't a faster sword at the same length.

Humm...I'm torn between gen 2 lucerne and the hanwei Albrecht sword. The valiant practical tuned is a nice sword but it is a bit too focused on cutting for my taste. Yeah yeah 1100 you don't see plate, but a properly padded maille armor is still pretty hard to cut through...but those later period thrusters should make short work of them ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) . The lucerne is a very fast blade...but I like that the Hanwei has more of a cutting option however. So assuming we are assured non lemons, I'll go with the hanwei one.

I dunno, the Custom Tuned Practical seems very good at thrusting for it's type. It doesnt come to a drastic point, but it is a far cry from the spatulate tips of an X/XI. I dont think mail is going to stand too much of a chance against a solid thrust from it, especially if it's butted.

Ok, I'll elaberate, lets say you dont have a chioce on getting a gurenteed good sword, you might get a lemon, I think Haniway would not servive, I would pic ether windlass UFULBERT or the windlass NORMAN, with the Darksword Norman and the 10th Viking pluss the midevil Saxon as my first choice..........SanMarc

Yes I know the valiants can thrust...but it would require a much more on target thrust then say the type XVa or XVIIIa would. And butted maille isn't someting you see historically so your not gonna be facing that.
If we are not assured a none lemon, I would go with the gen 2. DSA would probably be the very LAST one on my list if this was the case since loose/bad fitting might be an inconvience at best when used as a display sword and a safety issues at worst in cutting...but in battle field conditions, it's your life.

I'd go with a Gur... because I know they are all individually made, and feel that I'd stand a better chance of getting a good sword . This of course assumes $300 retail limit and European /period sword ![](http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/196/v005bet1.jpg)

Given the year is 1100 AD, and the fact that I would not want to stand out as something out of place, that pretty much requires a single-handed cut-oriented sword. I'm not aware of any medieval thrust-oriented swords from Type XV onward existing at the time.
Even not withstanding that, I'd still choose my AT "SBG1315" with the Valiant Armory "tuned" sharp arming sword as a 2nd choice. It would have a self-made hilt upgrade and a scabbard/belt from Brian at DBK. It gets fairly close to a real ATrim sword, and it stays within the stated $300 limit. Oh yeah, and a shield and suitable clothing. That would be a must for the time period.
