Thanks, you can shoot it when you come out. Maybe you can help me get it properly zeroed, I seem to sort of suck at that.

It's probably possible if you use use lower end (not bad, just cheaper) parts and wait until you find stuff on sale. Here is a kit similar to what you are asking about, though it's a flat top upper, which would likely fit the bill if you get something like an Anderson lower when they are on sale (around $59). DelTon 20" AR kitI didn't actually hit the $500 mark, but I did complete an A2-style build recently with a build kit from Palmetto State. It went together pretty smoothly, despite the incredibly tight tolerances of my lower. I still need to loosen up the bolt catch and get it back out to the range, to really get 'er pinpointed in. I had it out once last week, nothing further than 20 yards, just to get it on paper.

That would have been a good idea Sean, didn't even occur to me. Hey dougman, I like Palmetto State, though their fully floating handguards on their assembled uppers are a huge pain to remove. I'm going with an Aero Precision upper and lower for my next build.

I'm going with an Aero Precision upper and lower for my next build. Having no basis for what an AR should feel like, I'm quite happy with the palmetto state upper. I had a few tiny fit-and-finish issues, but nothing that wasn't fixable with a tiny diamond file. My biggest concern with this build was price... While I didn't hit my exact dollar amount, I did get 95% of what I wanted with the build, so I'm still satisfied. I still got my 20" barrel, solid buttstock, and good iron sights, but it was closer to $600 than my original budget of $500. I mean, I could've spent $200 less, but it wouldn't have been the type of rifle I wanted.

Here are the major parts I've gathered for my next build. I'll get the rest as assembly time eventually approaches. I really like the Aero lower and upper. Fit and finish seems superior to the Spikes pieces I used on the previous two builds.
