Ever heard of Legion Firearms? No? There's a reason for that, as they've long since gone out of businnes due to one of the co owners being a complete self righteous tool bag. The non tool bag co owner, however, was an aqcuantance of mine and I was among his first dozen or so customers. I got this matched set of recievers for cost AND he sent them out for hydro graphics AND microslicked the internals for me. The plan for this was a budget SPR to replace my since gone KAC SPR. But, life happened and it took a back burner and I forgot about the receivers until I was moving and found the box thew were in, squirreled away behind an old air matrress in my closet. At that point, I pretty much had no time or money to spend on AR builds, despite this being a budget build, so I sold the receivers to a local gun shop in Jacksonville. Turns out, the second string QB for the Jaguars bought them. Strange, small world lol.

If you ever plan on getting a suppressor for this AR, I would highly suggest getting the Innovative Arms W.A.R receiver: It has a gas adjustment switch built into it, but the position/ergonomics allows it to be adjusted quickly on the fly, without the need for tools or burning your fingers (especially if you're going to cover the gas block with a free-float rail of some sort). That's what I ultimately did, but had to shave the gas block to get everything to fit right:

I've never felt that the gas system on my suppressed weapons needed adjustment. I always matched buffer weights accordingly. But that is pretty neat if you plan on shooting with/without the suppressor and don't feel like swapping out buffers.

Yeah I really like it. It's quite the felt difference between having the switch set on full and reduced gas (with stock buffer weight and etc). Much smoother and less gas in the face.
While I haven't done it myself yet, I guess you can put the switch between full and suppressed to turn off the gas entirely, making it single shot with no action noise for "extra quiet" stuff.

Pretty interesting for sure. I may look into that if I ever decide to throw a suppressor on my KISS build, which is likely because I'll be putting an AAC 7.62SD on my bolt gun build, so why not put a suppressor mount on the AR lol.

I have become an AK man but I was really thinking about getting one of those Jack lowers, just cause. Very sweet looking AR.

I haven't shot her yet... going to take her out and sight her in this weekend most likely. That Barrel is a BEEFY 20 inch stainless bull barrel... I'm hoping to get some really nice accuracy out of it.

Nice, I imagine it's going to feel fairly nose heavy with that barrel though I expect that's the price of high accuracy.
You should get a sculpture of Nicholas Cage's face that fits over the front that you can remove to reveal the skull in order to complete the effect. At least it's more masculine than that purple fart squirrel gun you did a while back ;)

The purple gun is a 14.5 barrel with a welded muzzle device, so that is my short nimble cqb gun.

Quick yes-or-no question for you AR guys...Is it feasible in 2016 to do a sub-$500 A1/Vietnam style build?

It's probably possible if you use use lower end (not bad, just cheaper) parts and wait until you find stuff on sale. Here is a kit similar to what you are asking about, though it's a flat top upper, which would likely fit the bill if you get something like an Anderson lower when they are on sale (around $59). DelTon 20" AR kit

Finally got around to finishing the SBR, it's been sitting nearly complete for a long time while I was doing other things. Had an issue with the fire control group I'll report on in case anyone else ever has the same thing happen. After firing a round, the trigger would not reset. The bolt would cycle fully, stripping the next round from the magazine and loading it into the chamber, but when I eased off the trigger, it stayed where it was. If I nudged it forward by pushing on the back of it with my trigger finger, it would reset. If I switched the safety on, it would reset, but it wouldn't reset on its own. I unloaded and removed the upper so I could work the hammer by hand. The issue was definitely with the FCG as it happened without the upper in place - moving the hammer back by hand while holding the trigger in, then releasing the trigger and still no reset. I worked it several times (stopping the hammer with my thumb) and it seemed to be getting a bit better, though I could feel it being very gritty. I worked it until it would reset most of the time but if I released the trigger very slowly, it would still get hung up. So I pulled the FCG out and lightly sanded the sear on the disconnector and the rear sear on the hammer with lubed 2000 grit paper and then polished them. You can just barely see a little pit on the tip of the disconnector. That was larger and had some pals on the contact surface, which I smoothed away. I didn't want to take any more off so I stopped before it was completely removed. Seemed to be just enough unevenness there to cause it to hang up. Works perfectly smooth now.
