Let's not go there. I personally am not one who appreciates the suggestion of breaking the law here. Quick way to make things sticky in a bad way.

and there's legal ways to do it such as bump fire modifications. Wouldn't recommend it though. Rapid fire is just a way to burn through ammo quickly.

In fact, you are mistaken. We fall under the same laws as the other 49 states. It's a long story, and some of us don't like it either...

Manufacturing a machine gun is illegal unless you work for a company licensed to do so. Manufactured machine guns generally have to remain property of said company.
The only transferable fully automatic weapons are those produced before 1986, last I checked a full-auto lower for the AR-15 pattern rifle are going for $10,000, before various NFA transfer taxes and such.
NFA items (SBR, FA, suppressors, etc) are legal to own in Texas, with appropriate licensing and tax stamps.
The best thing I've ever heard from a former serviceman is the Army let him keep the DPMS AR-10 that could be fires SA, FA and three round bursts. He didn't have it with him because he didn't feel like getting it transferred in to Massachusetts.
I lol'ed.

well to get back on subject the AR15 would be a easy gun to get ammo for and it would be easyer to find than a military grade weapon so in a short phrase grab what is available whether that be a AR15, AK, or a simple hunting rifle.

I like the British SMLE, preferably the #1 MKIII*. Power roughly equivalent to a .308/7.62 NATO, 10-shot capacity, great tolerance for mud and dirt (proven in the trenches!), very smooth and fast bolt action, ammo is made in the USA (surplus is also available, but usually corrosive), and if you get the bayonet it makes a dandy short-sword. Not sure what they are running now, but I got one for under $100 about 20 years ago...

These days they are running $500 ish, and ammo is nowhere near as cheap as 54r is. If I where in a Commonwealth, I would own one without even thinking about it. Dan, if you don't want to buy an 80 year old rifle because you don't like who that nation was at the time of manufacture 80 years ago, you are really in the wrong hobby. No wait, skip that, don't buy a Mosin Nagant. Leave mroe cheap ammo and rifles for the rest of us This is my new advice, never buy a Mosin Nagant, they suck!

The term "survival" is rather broad. More then likley you would be in a Urban enviroment. "carry" could mean a few things. What I would prefer is the term, "accsess to".. In this day and age edged weopans such as swords and batons and such are not going to be your first line of defence or Offence because your problem of survival will be over very "quickly".. If I saw someone with a sword of any type and no rifle and that person had something i "needed" and no law was present ,Then ,well, the last thing they would see after refusing to "give it up" is the flash from my M1a 7.62 nato... An edged weopan in a gunfight is going to be an invitation to an early demise. Also IMHO, the main priority would be to find a sanctuary where you would not have to exspose yourself any more then you had too. AS the English would say, " go to ground", meaning to stay under cover as much as possible until Law and order, of some kind , could be established. The only good option then is to "forage at night" for food and then return to ones "lair" at before daybreak. So all this said, my main battle weapons would be a battle type rifle, sidearm and a couple of knives with a longer " blade" as a "distant" backup... I would also have a good quality 22 rimfire with plenty, and i do mean PLENTY of ammunition with a lot of 22 shorts. The 22 shorts could AND would be used to shoot whatever was available for food and would be advisable because they make hardly any noise and would not reveal ones"position" to your "competition" ... Also a 22 with good quality ammo is effective on "trespasers" up to 100 yards or so and would allow you to conserve your "MBR" "main battle rifle" for when it is truly Needed !!! Yes indeed, a 22 rimfire can kill a person! In a urban "survival" situation you need water, food, shelter and a means to "last" until order is restored.. That said my weapons are this
1.M1a socom 7.62 nato with a "scout scope setup" 400 rounds of Ball ammunition, 100 rounds of hunting ammo 2.Glock 19 with 300 rounds of ball ammunition, several 15 round mags and a couple 32 round mags 3.ruger 10-22 22 rimfire with a few 10 round mags and some high capacity mags 1000 rounds longrifle and 500 rounds of shorts and bb caps which can be loaded "single shot" style.... Yes, they work fine ! 4.Cold steel 12 inch "san mai" tanto style knife, razor sharp 5.a couple of "buck" folders, brand new razor sharp
My "blade" which I am still debating is a "zombietools" Duece ar decapitan... everything above is what i have in my safe

Or, you may see the brief flash of the sword as your head comes off
In a survival situation the ideal is to team up with other specialists, this is why the army sends people out in "squads".

I always thought living in the uk that if the proverbial did hit the fan then i would probably stand a better chance than our us cousins of avoiding armed adversaries due to the fact that we have very few guns over here.
Well i did a quick check and licensed firearms and shotguns in britain currently stand at 1,801,540 that's 3,287 for every 100,000 or 1 firearm/shotgun for every 30.4 people .I thought i would be ok with a crossbow.
Now i know that's still nowhere near the amount of firearms per person compared to the us,but still i thought there would be a lot less than that,i best stock up on 00 buck for the 12 guage and leave the crossbow for the zombies, there'll be more armed nutters over here than i thought if things go pear shaped :geek:

Since I live out in the country, in a SHTF situation I suspect I would be doing a lot of hunting to put meat on the table. One gun I have that would be great in such a situation is my 20 gauge Northwest trade gun, which is a light-weight flintlock musket originally traded to Native Americans for furs (12 beaver pelts could buy a gun). Since it is a flintlock, commercial caps are not needed, and black powder can be made at home (I have the Foxfire series of books that tells how to make it the "mountain folk" way). Since it is a smoothbore, I can load it with either a single .60 caliber ball for large game, or birdshot for birds and smaller game, or (in a pinch) buckshot or buck-and-ball for defense (although, like a sword, it would be a LAST line of defense). I also have the necessary tools and materials for casting my own bullets (for my cartridge guns as well as my muzzle-loaders). The blackpowder guns would allow me to conserve the "modern" ammunition for the repeating guns for use in emergencies, like holding off looters and other members of society's dark side.

you might just have the opposite problem. defending against groups of people is much easier if you all have guns than if you all have melee weapons.

Gtk4158a, may I kindly remind you that you recently started a thread with those exact, same words, and that it was locked because of the lines that I just put in bold.
It is against the rules of this forum to claim that you will shoot down someone that has what you need, even in a SHTF scenario. If you want to talk more about that claim of your's, I suggest that you find a forum that doesn't mind chatting about murder and armed robbery.

AMEN! Self defense is one thing. Suggesting that it is okay to play "dog-eat-dog" rather than "love thy neighbor" is entirely another. I'd rather be like Mad Max or one of the people holed up in the refinery, than "Humongous" or one of his band of marauders, any day if society ever collapses.

What type of survival" existence are we talking about? Are you forced to travel for weeks at a time, or are you settled down on a homestead or community? If you are traveling you can't be packing an arsenal, pick one long gun and one pistol.
Want something reliable, relatively cheap to shoot, easy to hump around and inexpensive to buy - get an SKS for $250. 7.62x39 is good enough for medium game such as deer.
Want to learn to shoot a rifle, get a 10/22 or similar.
Want a "survival" weapon buy a 12 ga pump shotgun. Much better for bird and small game hunting, if you are living off the land. Pretty damned good at crowd control too.
If you have more money get an AR-15, a good one will run you $800-1000. No, it's not what you want to take big game, but honestly, we aren't talking about "game" are we.
Yes, 7.62 NATO/.308 is a fine round, but how much of it are you going to carry cross country? .30 cal semi-auto rifles are also heavier than an SKS or AR-15. My choice is an FN-FAL, an M1A or PTR-91 are about equal.
A WWI era bolt action rifle isn't going to cut it in a gunfight. You might actually be better off with a 10/22 than a 91/30.
Long range shooting at . . zombies - I suggest a bolt action hunting rifle with a good scope. By long range I mean 500+ yards/meters. Either that or a medium machinegun such as an M-240 or M-60 (good luck finding one). There are semi-auto .30 cal with close to the accuracy of a Remington 700/Browning X-bolt/Sako/Weatherby (or similar). You can get the hunting rifles in some more powerful calibers than standard military issue, but ammo cost and access are concerns.
Closer in - 9mm semi-auto. I use the Beretta 92, but there are many, many options. You can buy a .22 adapter for the Beretta, to cut target practice expenses. 9mm Luger is probably the most available pistol ammo, relatively cheap while having sufficient stopping power.
