"So hey, European swords or Japanese?" "Umm, Japanese?" YOU FAILLLLLLLLL! Oh god, why is this still being posted? For a thread on a sword forum, these have to be the most uncivilized threads that are most often posted. I personally love Japanese swords, but you always have that guy that is like "Nope, this is without a doubt better". I wish I could say I am shocked, but not really. We should sticky one of these so people stop posting them, at that point it'd just be redundant. And what I love the most, people know this will cause drama. *Sigh* EDIT: I also notice people flat out saying "European swords are better" despite the intended purposes of the swords in question. Also the "Kats all look alike" is funny to me, because that is what detered me from European swords. And if Quality control is such a huge factor, don't get Chinese-made swords, invest in something high quality. Just the stupidity of the posts... Sorry if I offend any particular person, but this is the kind of thing that makes me lose respect for those I thought were doing the forum well, sweeping generalizations just piss me off. I may not be the most well respected member of SBG, nor the oldest, but...... Geez dude. Perhaps you should rack up a few more posts, a little more respect, and a few more manners before trash talking an entire forum. random has a point as well as you do... but one reason this stuff gets redone so much is folks come in and maybe they havent read the other threads, then there is still the age old discussion of on sword better than others, even styles too. the distinct thing here is, that we all sword fans, and we love talking about, debating about, and especially using swords. face it, it is all fun. the bottom line is that even trash talking sometimes is good clean fun, poking at the other guys. as long as we do not get out of hand. moderators read regularly, and will lock a thread when it goes too far. as for racking up more posts to make an observed statement... i remember when i was new here... it felt like i had to earn respect, when i was a well trained, and experience practitioner. if no one knew scott rodell and he signed up, should he feel that way, and he is world renowned. the big issue is simply enjoy ourselves and our discussion, and safely practice.

I would say to anyone that gets upset by this discussion: just avoid the thread. Not hard to do since the subject is pretty obvious from the title. The subject offends you? Don't click and move to another thread. That way those that want to discuss can and those that don't...well...don't discuss. Easy, ain't it?
Personally I took most the "trash talk" to be nothing more than friendly joking. I think the overwhelming majority of people posting know the truth.

Wait........ I don't have to come here? But the little "NEW" thingy shows up on the main page and I can't help myself. For what it's worth, I have learned something every time one of these threads pop up. I consider that a good thing. I also liked how it kind of evolved into a why I like a particular sword, it gives an insight to the individual. And some of the joking was first rate! ;D Just think how cool it would be if this one doesn't get locked!

Oh, I didn't mean to be THAT inflammatory.
Mike, I don't believe we have been introduced, though I like you. You call people on BS without hesitation is appears, I like that. But I've been around before SBG hit the 1000 member mark, I believe I joined right around 6 or 7ish. So I've been around the block a few times.
I was just annoyed at the way threads like this go down, it is the same as before I left. You always had a member posting a thread like this, one a month wasn't uncommon, and these do nothing to serve the community. They bash, they make people upset, and at the end of the day having compared European to Japanese swords (Or vice verse) is like apples and oranges, no difference.
Are you Familiar with the Simile "like water off a duck's back"?
I just REALLY had to get that out and meant absolutely no disrespect, now if you'll exucse me, I may be having an asthma attack, but I'm dedicated so I'm making this post anyways, lol.

Whether a thread serves a purpose or not is indicated by how long it goes on. This one has nine pages so far. Now granted the purpose may be dubious or even detrimental, like a couple pages of this one, LOL But for the most part I found it amusing and even informative in places. In the end as has been stated if no one is required to participate.
Not for nothing but even "Deadliest Warrior" wouldn't touch this match up. ;D

There is only one deadliest warrior! It's the jedi-master! (And hey, has a powerful sword, too!)

You know, what Mike said reminded me of something... I'm pretty sure I made some stupid or inflammatory posts when I was on hydros on a thread much like this one. Man oh man, 1000mg of the loritabs and 500mg of Ibuprofen and pain makes you a zombie. ^_^ Also, Jedi vs ANYTHING is just unfair, deadliest warrior would become even more painful, lol. They'd win every time in those hilarious little battle scenarios they're always talking about. And can you imagine how many points the light saber/force combo would earn?!

Well honestly If thicker obsidian were used to give the edge more meat, I can't see it being that huge of an issue. Human bone isn't incredibly tough, and as far as I've seen with these weapons, they seemed to be intended to inflict gashes as opposed to severing limbs. A wrist or throat cut with one of those and I think you'd be fine. Peronally I believe the weapon would hold up, though the proof is in the pudding... I haven't seen one of these tested so this is conjecture. No one has seen those Obsidian weapons put to the test because no one uses em anymore, and have not for a long time. There was a BS version tested recently on 'The Deadliest Warrior' but that show is a steaming pile of excramint and missinformation, so I don't take anything they do too serously. totally true about 'deadliest warrior' what a load of bull- the way they decide what has the 'edge'- and they act so scientific- ha! -I do watch it though to see different weapons (whether authentic or not) and sometimes the 'experts' they bring on actually know what they're doing. BTW- "steaming pile of excra mint"... that's got to be the freshest smelling poo I've ever heard about.. ;D

I watch the show because as stated above, you get to see different weapons.
Plus you can only watch LOTR so many times per week, and I refuse to watch "Who Wants to Marry the Biggest Jersey Idol Apprentice Dance Loser"
