Greetings all... Well, I just received quite a shock from my wife who, as some of you know, is overseas at the moment. On a random whim she decided to buy an authentic Persian rug... and she spent... you guessed it... ...$5,350. So, I was, needless to say, quite shocked by this... and my mind started floating to what that kind of money represents. We are by NO means well off, that amount of money is almost half the value of our one and only car, and a SIGNIFICANT portion of our liquid assests... its a hell of a lot of money! Its more then the total value of my entire weapon collection to boot. Thats when I started thinking, as I am sure many of you naturally would, about what YOU would buy for your collection if you had $5,350 to burn. Here's what I would do... I have my eye on a few Atrim swords at the moment, one of which has a Christian Fletcher Scabbard as well, I would pick them all up, that would be about 2k. I have some custom work, scabbards and such, I want to get made, that would be about another 1k. I have a Couple Katana I want, and alterations to them, that would be about 850. The last 1,500 I would use to have an idea I've had trickleing around in my head custom made... likely by Brenno of Fable Blades. So... thats how I would burn $5,350... what would YOU do with it?

I think I'd get myself a few of custom swords from different makers, and maybe a nice Albion.

I could never rectify spending that much money at once for a hobby like thing but if I could, here's what I'd buy: Lots of fine steel (56 SI 7 and C60), some new machines and equipment and maybe one or two ATrims/Tinkers! The rest I'd use for studying at university and to buy some stuff for my violin. My dearest wish concerning swords is that some day I can make every sword I imagine myself so I don't have to ogle the new ATrims/Tinkers... I've already taken quite a few steps into that direction but I still need some special tools and stuff.

On a rug...? I have no idea what to think. But I guess everyone has their hobbies. ;D Heh. Yeah, certainly wouldn;t be MY choice... at that price its not even really gonna be a rug, I mean, there is no way in HELL we are going to put it on the floor and walk on it. Its basicly a really expensive peice of art, as we will likelt seal and fram it to protect it and hang it somewhere. I'm boggled... *I* can not fathom paying that much for a rug. Hell, tho I would WANT to be a sword at that price, I wouldn't, because it represents WAY too much of our total wealth to spend on any single item to me... let alone one I can't use or do anything with. That said, I love my wife, she wanted it, and she works hard at a dangerous job to protect all of us... so while I was stunned and baffled by her choice, I was not, as she thought I would be, angry. I just can't help but think of what I would do with that money rather then buy a hug... a hut tub, a second car, a convertable... or SWORDS. Anything really before a rug.

That covers $3,000, doesn't it? + 1k for scabbard. Sparky: Interesting... I don't know why, but I would not have pictured you a saber style guy... and certaily would not have thought you'd blow 4k on one peice rather then pick up many swords.

With that amount of cash I would invite my girlfriend for a nice trip and the leftovers of $ would be spent on a new sword

Hmm would probably spent about 3k on swords, a tinker or atrim and an albion Soldat. Enter a 1k poker tournament. Spent the rest on books, DVDs, CDs, clothes, maybe a nice suit. A new laptop etcetera.

It's probably because I grew up on Robert A. Heinlein and have dreamed that sword for most of my life. Then to see my dreams on line in that sword just knocks my socks off! ;D I mean that sword is exactly how I pictured it..... exactly!I was actually talking to my wife and told her I would trade the my katana from the 1500's for this sword. Don't know if that is stupid on my part or not but that's how much I like that sword.

I much prefer cash games to tournies... I clean up at cash games. ;D Its a damn shame you don't live nearby, my custom poker table dosn't see enough skilled players...

1K for a scabbard?? Holy moly, I could have Brian at DBK make almost two for that!! On the other hand... 3000 for a sword...
All this is really hard to grasp, for me at least, I can't even imagine that much money so the though of spending it seems so unreal... I know there are some scaringly high prices for swords out there... but it just blows me away every time I see them again.
