Mine is rather boring: I'd build a fence around the backyard of my new home. If anything was left (maybe $800-$1200), it would be invested into my Super Glide.

Since it's a sword forum, and since (presumably) my wife just invested (yeah, invested) in an equivalently priced rug, and I had $5350 burning a hole in my pocket, I'd have John Lundemo build me a Mongol saber along the lines of the one Vince Evans did here: forum.grtc.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=740 except that I'd go with a non-pattern-welded blade. Note: when I say "along the lines of" I certainly don't mean copy, I mean make a Mongol saber that would look at home riding near Evans' saber. What, no one got the Big Lebowski reference?

Hey everyone... I'm seeing some GREAT sword buying dreams with the $5,350... keep em comming! Ghehehe, I like cash games but like tournaments better, especially with no limit I prefer tournaments. No limit cash games can become too much of a grind and therefore I would take a tournament over a cash game for 1k. And who knows, maybe one day we get the chance to play a game. We could always throw down over the iNtErWeBz... I play on FullTilt from time to time. You do have to be more patient and grind it out in the cash game, but that better suits my style. Also, while I'm well grounded in the math, I'm more of an instinct/feel player. In a tournie, you get move around alot and often are out of chips before you really start figuring out your fellow players habits... in a cash game you play with a lot of the same people over a long time... after a few hours, I start to really get a sense of their style... then I can make move against them. Assuming they are not better then me, in that case, I should move to another table. If it does, I'll have no complaints... I'll consider it a more stylish second car. ;D On the other hand, if I spent that kind of money without my wife knowing ahead of time. Well, somebody make sure it's a nice looking funeral. Heh. I bet the same would be true if it were ME who just blew $5,350 on a new custom sword. You were in the Army, if my momory is correct... so you understand the stress of being away from home in harms way I'm so very proud of my wife for what she does, I was blow away by this choice of hers, but I can't be mad at her for doing something that makes her happy, when she has to deal with so much. So this is how 50% of marriages end in divorce..... No kidding! Arguments/disagreements over money are a big issue in realtionships... and like I said, if it were me blow the cash on a sword I suspect my ass would be grass. And at least one of these: /index.cgi?board=designs&action=display&thread=13937&page=1 I'm surprised you wouldn't focus just on getting your stuff made... tho some of my favs were in your list of swords. Hey, an authentic Persian Rug is no joke. Treat it well Shadow, that's gonna be an heirloom! Yeah, state side that rug could be worth about 10-15K So think of what you can get from the profet!? Could easily be worth that or more sanmarc, provided it isnt a tourism made piece.Ever watch antiques roadshow on pbs,Ive been hooked since first show. Yup. I dunno if you guys have been to any of the middle east countries... but in most of them, they still consider the fine art of the 'haggle' to be VERY important. My wife will tell you, I LOVE to haggle... even when its not considered approprate to do so. I work in Auto-Sales for 7 years... I'm all about the deal. My wife has done some research into how to spot fakes vs authentics as far as these rugs go... but that was years ago... I had no idea she was still interested. She did a lot of haggling, got the price down quite a bit from where it was, but it remains to be seen if there was just a LOT of mark-up to start or if she got a valuable deal. What scares the &*%$ out of me is that my wife is right now overseas, with full access to our (limited) money - and will be for another couple weeks. I started to think of all the awesome swords I would like and now all I am thinking of is all the things she would like to spend it on. Ah well if we end up with 500 bottles of red wine we'll invite you lot over! Heh. What really hit me was, I had NO idea she was going to do it, no inclination she was even thinking about anything like that... just out of nowhere, WHAM! 5+k, gone. I'm still a bit stunned. Bring the wine... I don't drink, but I'm thinking about starting. ;D maybe it flies... like Aladdin's... Heh... like I said to Ric... if it does, I won't be disapointed.

A quick check of the current exchange rates reveals that 5350 dollars is actually considerably more money then my total assets. In fact, I think Shadowhowler's wife just spent more money then I have ever owned at once.
Geez. That's gotta be one heck of a rug. o.O
As for me burning that kind of dough? My first impulse would be to order an obscenely expensive custom -I considered Jake Powning, but was amazed to find that his stuff apparently tends ot be even more expensive then Mrs Shadowhowler's rug- but having come to my senses somewhat, I'd probably spend it on equipment instead and put together my own workshop, forge and foundry. That way I can make my own crazy expensive swords.

Anders: Yup... its a hell of a lot of money. More then I have ever spent on anything that was not a car, thats for sure. It still hurts my brain a little... While I would LOVE to get a custom made for that kinda cash... I would NEVER buy any single sword or item that cost that much unless it represented less of a total portion of my liqued assests then that amount currently does. Its a hell of a lot of money... for what amounts to a peice of art to go on the wall.

save it quite honestly, I've never had that kind of money and considering how important money is to an unemployed uni student I wouldn't be inclined to spend it. I might buy a correlation between Bro B and Bren which is something I'd love to do at some point but I'd be more inclined to buy something useful like medical cover.

First off, let me just state that I'm so sorry for your loss...but that will indeed be one hell of a rug! ;D Man, There are so many things I could blow that kind of money on. Two words came to mind immediately: Juyo Token. But there are other things. I could get kickass custom terrariums built for all my reptiles. I could buy matching Pavel Bolf swords for my fiancé and I and have them polished and mounted. I could get one Rick Barret and have Kieth Larman polish it. I could invest in a pair of Emerald Tree Boas and start a breeding operation. I could start my own sword company. I could buy a more gas-efficient vehicle. I could get my fiancé and I memberships to the NBTHK. I could get several ATrims, a decent Nihonto or two and a couple more Bugeis. I could also invest in some Dynasty Forge's and in antique koshirae to go on them all. That'd buy a hell of a lot of tatami, too. I could buy many reptilian morphs I've been oogling over the years, as well as many blades. We could let it sit in savings and eventually buy a house. We could go visit Japan or Australia. I could get my 501-C's for my rescue organization. I could buy my fiancé the work station he really needs. We could buy all the newest gaming consoles and games, or two really good custom-built gaming computers. We could buy out-of-print books on swords, reptiles, music, anime and manga we've been hunting for. We could pay for our wedding...AND a trip to Hawaii. What we'd really end up doing with it? Putting it toward bills and necessities...and a few new swords.

In that case I might get a fulltilt account I never liked fulltilt or any other pokersite but pokerstars, just too used to pokerstars I guess. And I agree with you on the feel part, especially on the internet you almost never get a chance to get into someone's head. In cash games a lot of people don't stay for long, and in tourneys there are just too many people and you almost never run into the same people twice. And because of al the moving around on the internet games you also almost never get the chance to build up a table image. Gonna get fulltilt now.. Have to check out their payment options and such and if it still looks as terrible as I remember

dont feel bad, last year I picked up a persian for the bargain price of $4K. The only problem with having a rug of that distinction is the paranoia that ensues. Had some friends over for new years and one of them drank too much....disoriented she headed the wrong way to the right bathroom taking her directly towards my persian....I had slow-mo flashes in my mind of her blowing chunks all over my gorgeous new purchase so I yelled at one of my others friends to grab her....luckily she was captured 3 feet from the rest of her life where she feel to one knee and puked in my ficus.
anyway...with $5350 to burn I would probably some new wheels for my car....or maybe i would buy some more ford stock

I would use 5.300USD to fix my life, which is currently not going so well.
That would take about 4k.
The rest I would realistically spend on my friends, who've kept me afloat so far.
