I just remembered I have a little Persian tapistry, too small to be a rug, a Persian friend gave it to me in 1976, wonder if it's worth enough for maybe a Wheel of Time sword

Yeh, *I* never thought I'd be talking Rugs here either... My wife actualy visited where the rugs where constructed and saw the methods used, so she is sure its hand made... and its a silk on silk, but a lot smaller then yours.... she guesses its about 5 x 3. Wow....silk on silk...that is really uncommon. 5x3 is small but given it is silk on silk with such a high knot count it is definitly woth some $$$ Has it made back to your home and if so, where is this going to be displayed?

Howard Clark L6 Katana blade, length 30", then send off to polish and furniture, then I could cut flies, microorganisms, air molecules, or junk cars in half ;D The rest could maybe buy a decent PC gaming system Keep dreaming, this amount wont get you even an unmounted Clark, let alone a decent polish and furniture.

I'd really like to have an Arms & Armor Medici Falchion: www.armor.com/sword158.htmlAnd I'd try to get my hands on a Jodi Samson cutlass.

Hmmm, tough call. That is a lot of money and there are many things I'd wish to do with it. I guess first I would travel to various sword museums and I am a lover of sword craftsmanship.

the conception of their value comes FROM that Embargo, much like Cuban cigars. Protip: All the good cigarrillos went to the Dominican Republic after Castro got in. Very true... and little known. I used to manage a store where we sold expensive wine and booze and cigars. I didn't smoke myself, but I wanted to understand the product so I started reading and studying. Has it made back to your home and if so, where is this going to be displayed? Nope... not here yet. We will most likely have it framed and hang it on a wall that at this moment is bare and in need of some decoration... I could have decorated it somewhat less expensively, but, alas... ;D

Oops, my bad what would be the correct price for that I've seen them go for 4K, but usually when you see a L6 Clark it is substantially higher. A Clark tanto starts at 1500$ or so. That is bare blade in rough polish. here is a Clark mounted by Hastings that is only 11.5K www.legacyswords.com/fs_gen_sword6.htm

Wow, thanks for sharing that I would think that an L6 monosteel katana would cost less than the forge-folded katana in this example. The traditionalists might hate on me, I would go tactical with the mountings on mine, with a shiny round steel tsuba, a Kraton handle, and a steel pommel (Sorry the correct Japanese terminology is missing from my memory)

Well +1 to you, Chuckinohio, you just proved a Howard Clark L6 blade could fall within the $5,350 limit

I just had an oshigata framed and it was $700.00....lol

I sorta got an even buying thing with my wife, if I buy a 500 dollar sword she is allowed to get something near to that at some point in the near future. Worst part is it can get a little competative . My CSS H/T Longsword was 500, that wasnt so bad until my video card crapped itself and a tiny upgrade later 1200 was spent to repair and upgrade, the sword was the thing she got bitter about not the more expensive comp because it doesnt get used everyday and has few functions. I can understand that. If she bought another car to be shipped over wouldnt be so bad, a rug ........ well at least you could sell it for more in the U.S or it could be an heirloom ....... then again I've always said heirlooms are only keepsakes until the great grandchildren are short for cash

Again. well, my oshigata was framed with museum glass which was $400 just on its own.....however, my oshigata is no where as big as 5x3 so even if she goes with a lesser grade glass your probably still gonna be in the $400+ range....sorry buddy....lol

Greetings all... Well, I just received quite a shock from my wife who, as some of you know, is overseas at the moment. On a random whim she decided to buy an authentic Persian rug... and she spent... you guessed it... ...$5,350. Tell your wife that you know someone who can get her genuine Persian carpets for a lot less than $5k. Hell, I'd be willing to get them to you for as little as 1 grand, US. That'll leave me with a nice little 400% profit margin, even. Seriously, did she go crcazy or hit her head? Contact someone you know deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan (or ask me). They're a LOT cheaper over there (as are most things from that region). Plenty worth whatever hassle it is to ship them...

Well... my wife is a Chief Petty Officer in the USN, and she deploys to the middle east region now and again. She seems to be fairly knowledgeable about these rugs... tho I sort of just not my head and 'Yes Dear' when she talks about them, much as she does when I talk specifics about swords. She seems fairly certain she got what she considers to be a good deal, so I trust her on that. My only thing is, I don't really care how much a good deal it was, its still 5k on something we don't NEED and don't have a practical use for.

It's not my place to say anything but then you started a forum thread so I'll toss this out there. It's obvious from the things you say how much you love your wife, you're a little mystified right now 'cause she seems to have gone completely bats*** and bought this rug but you love her like crazy. Every once in awhile my wife does something that stops me dead in my tracks and leaves me thinking "I could have sworn that woman was sane..." but then I recall if it weren't for that habit of hers she'd never have married me. So, even though it's none of my damned business I just wanted to say you've got a good thing and I think you'll just roll with this. It's all part of the craziness of life. As for me, if I had that kind of money to burn I'd put most of it in the bank, it'd take me awhile to figure out what I wanted. I'm a terrible one to dither over things. If I do figure out what I want I'll come back and post it. And, sorry if I've spoken out of turn here, I don't mean to give offense.

Now THATS the truth brother... I mean in regards to me... my wife had to have a case of temporary insanity to say "I do." when she was asked if she takes me as her husband. ;D This single act of inexplicable lunacy has not, even in the slightest, diminished the certain knowledge I have of just how lucky I am that a woman as amazing as she was willing to marry a schlub like me, I assure you.

I really like reading stuff like this! ;D Working in the construction field I'm around guys who speak poorly of their wives or worse. So it's really cool to see I'm not the only one who loves his wife "for better or for worse"! Cause in my opinion it'd be "worse" if my wife realized what a loser she married. So go Shadow go!
