Tom, that was a PERFECT description of our situation. There are so many swords I want, but I'm not a millionaire, unfortunately.

I still love Brenno's takes on the LOTR stuff.

Yeah, Brenno's Anduril is VERY nice, especially the grip shape. Love that wire wrap ;D

That was not a perfect Anduril, but if you're gonna have one, might as well have one made by the man who envisioned it in the first place. For that kind of money, authenticity should not be a problem.

It is a nice sword, but for the price I would rather have someone forge me my own LOTR sword. By the way, I believe that I have settled on getting the 304S and 303S. I could get something better, but some other expenses not related to swords have come up. So, does anybody know where I can acquire a suspension system that will work for both swords?

Not certain about the suspension system, but I would be interested in finding out about that myself. Maybe Sonny will have something reasonable once the custom shop is up and running.
Nice choice of swords, I was going to go with the same as my first Euro blades.

At first I was hesitant about getting the longsword, but after seeing the VA video of the newest version, I realised that the aesthetic simplicity of it was rather beautiful. I want to get the 303S in brown though, and I also do not know which sword stores currently have both of the newest models in stock.

I would check Kult of Athena and the SBG store first or you could just order from Sonny directly through VA's website. I thought I saw the lowest prices at KoA but I could be mistaken, I keep forgetting to check the SBG store when I'm browsing.
As ornate as my Chinese Swords tend to get, there's a simple beauty to a no frills Euro blade that looks like it was intended to function first and foremost.

Two fine swords and you have time to save up for fancier swords as you learn to appreciate the finer points. I am sure even after you "move up" you will still appreciate and use your two old swords. You can try Christian Fletcher for the belt and suspension. The Ranger belt comes highly recommended by Odingaard and costs about $95.

Does the Ranger belt have a suspension sytem built in, or does it come with one? Arms of Valor has a suspension system for $35 that is supposed to work with any belt, but I don't know how good the quality is.

Jon, you could try the Inner Bailey (that's the name, www in front, dot com behind); I needed a belt and suspension rig for my wedding- they make all of their goods in-house, the prices are very decent and the customer service is top notch. Susan's a pleasure to work with- she handles the orders while her partner fulfills them; great team there.
I'd bought the swordbelt of the Circle; that'd work for both swords you're getting- great choices, by the way, you will not be sorry!

The Ranger is a belt and suspension. I don't see it posted on Christian's website anymore? Maybe contact him and ask if he still makes it. It looks like a real nice system. I have seen the Inner Bailey's Swordbelt of the Circle and liked the look of it. I haven't ordered from them myself yet. Actually, looking now, I like all their belts. Here it is the site: www.theinnerbailey.com/swordbelts.htm

I'm not too well informed on belts, are those historically accurate or historically inspired? I noticed the Ivanho was inspired by belts from the movie. leads me to think they are modern interpretations of historical belts.
got info?

I know little about the historical accuracies. I don't know any more than the site says but in the description of the ring belt it says: "...is based on an example found in a Flemish painting of the late 14th or early 15th Century." How accurate I do not know as they don't share the picture with us. I would guess this belt is at least "historically inspired" if not accurate.
The Medieval Swordbelt says "Inspired by the swordbelt of Sir Robert de Bures". Again the "inspired". Looks very like the provided image.
The Longsword Belt only says "...is based on a popular 15th Century design. " So I would probably say inspired not necessarily accurate.

that's about what I was guessing. nothing wrong with that as far as I'm concerned.
you know, we should either start 6 different new threads based on the contents of this thread and then lock this one up or else rename this thread "Current events and MISC. discussions"
I don't think I've seen a thread here go QUITE this far afield before.
