Iām guessing you mean this thread: sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/52806/antique-blades-pelliuss-cleaning-threadsIf not, just kinda ignore the rest of this. Very broadly speaking, military Euro sabers were historically polished to the equivalent of about 400 grit, with troopers even using sand to field polish their blades. Iāve actually decreased the level of polish on some of my Euroās to make them a bit more acceptable to the collector crowd. On the other hand, the polish standard for katana generally seems to be āoptical grade mirror.ā You can definitely get that with sandpaper, but it will be an absolute ton of work. The higher grits, say 1000+, foul very quickly, so it will also take a lot of sandpaper. The katana crowd generally frowns on using sandpaper to clean katana, especially old nihonto. They seem to recommend high end professional stone polishing or nothing. Stone polishing runs maybe a couple grand and a year wait in my neck of the woods. Higher grit paper will certainly help your scratches, though you may want to use a different technique than the rolled up paper strip method. I once saw a tutorial where a guy glued large sheets of sandpaper to a glass sheet, though I never tried such a thing. It will be tough to get back to a mirror finish with sandpaper. If you hive it a go, please share your project with the forum!

Shipping insurance is worthless, if they lose the package they will NOT honor it. Ive had multiple packages go missing or be marked delivered but to the wrong address and their answer is always the same "its marked delivered not our problem" or "you need to call this person" and then when you call that number they tell you you need to call the person you just talked to who gave your their number then they will bounce you back and forth until you give up. Unfortunately, this has been my experience, too, with USPS, UPS, and FedEx. Likewise, my experience has been that PayPal will not honor any buyer protection policies on an item PayPal deems to be a āweapon.ā Just anecdotal, so fwiw.

Over on the Chinese Sword sub-forum, I posted that the Hanwei Oxtail was in stock. By the time I wrote the post, it was showing out of stock. So I deleted the thread.
It couldāve been a KoA website hiccup, but if you see something you want, you may want to go ahead and grab it.

Very nice collection.
Itās great that you started out learning history, then got into swords. For me, swords were my main interest. They nurtured my interest in history. Though Iām no academic. At best Iām a history tourist.
āI was going to get only one..ā Very famous first words. Lol

At about 2:10, Michelle Yeoh wields one against a jian:
Obviously high fantasy, but itās a famous dramatic demonstration.

If he puts his stamp of approval on a bendy crowbar, Iām blaminā him. If Windlass claims he approved something he didnāt, I would expect him to speak up. He has the platform to do so.
If their collab yields the results promised, Iām prepared to completely revise my opinion of Windlass. Even if they charge more.
Thatās just me, though.

As for me, if they hit the specs and are as true to the *entire* geometry of the original as Mr. Easton claims, Iāll be thrilled.
He didnāt really speak a lot to the steel and heat treating, which are indispensable to me. Hopefully, they all agreed that went without saying.
I wouldnāt mind paying more for such a sword.
Maybe this can become another Peter Johnsson/Albion level collaboration. Without the yearlong waitlist. Ah, one can hope.
Edit I never really understood why correct distal taper was such a challenge for a commercial forge. Iām sure there is a good reason. I just donāt know what it is.

I hope they hit these specs. ā¦ I think at this point, it's never a question whether Windlass "can", but whether Windlass "will do". I never get the impression that they lack the capacity, just the will to do it right. Of course, having collaborators to provide very detailed measurements and pictorial references would definitely help with their incentive to implement it correctly. Based on the initial impression of the prototypes, they are very close to 1:1 reproduction of the originals. The question is whether they will keep it up in production runs. ā¦ Hmm. Interesting point. Okay, I think Iām prepared to blame Matt Easton if Windlass under-delivers.

Museum Replica used to have Windlass made a reproduction of the Wakefield Hangers back in the day, but it wasn't anywhere nearly as faithful, and it has been long discontinued. This current iteration of the Wakefield Hanger is so above and beyond any Windlass' past offerings in terms of fit and finish and accuracy. They really tried this time, and it seems that all they have needed all long is someone to push them towards having a more stringent standard. I hope they hit these specs. DelTinās attempt was pretty, but rocked in at about 1021g. www.kultofathena.com/product/del-tin-15th-century-infantry-sword/
