Pointgallery makes fantastic looking functional Highlander swords... they are the only licensed maker of such swords... they’ve made some limited models recently using carved giraffe femurs, which I think is the closest you can get without finding a rather expensive fossilized ivory piece for the handle. www.pointgallery.com/sword/pages/sword.html

Collector knives are subjective: they cost what the market will bear. Just a few years ago, Hinderer knives (production, not custom) were going for over $600 on the secondary market, and were super hard to find. Fast forward to about the end of 2015, and the market fell, seeing as Rick bought a lot more equipment/a new shop, and was able to produce way more knives than before. Now, you can get an NIB Hinderer XM-18 for under $350 on the secondary market. This is only one example though. There are other knives (Shirogorov, Lambert, Peña, Christiansen, Borka, etc) that go well over $1K, and can be either “users” or safe queens. on the other hand, you have knives like the 2 Kiku Matsuda Large Hurricane G’s I have, and while they look great (fantastic imho), are meant to be used even though the price tag is close to $1K each. Same thing goes with swords - some are meant to be “lookers”, others as performers, and yet others that cross into both types. Here’s a few pics of the Matsuda knives for your viewing pleasure

Aside from Josh (Cottontail Customs), Randy Black also does awesome work, and isn’t as expensive as Fred Lohman (who did one of my tsukas - came out great!). So, you have several options, will come down to time, cost, and availability of the customizer to do the work. Oh, and I would definitely steer clear of nihonzashi for tsuka work - the stuff that’s come out in the last couple years (or more) are not well done imho.

Best way to search for him on FB is to condense both words into one: madmonkey

@madmonkeyrende might be able to make a custom one for you. You can also try Fred Lohman or Roman Urban, but they can be pricey. Best bet is probably finding a used Bamboo Mat tsuba like you mentioned before.
*Edit: I’m not sure if Mad Monkey Rende is a member of this forum anymore, but he’s on Facebook.

I bought an antique ajiro tsuba a few years back from Aoi Japan... not inexpensive, but not cheap either. I think they currently have at least one ajiro tsuba for sale www.aoijapan.com/fittings/tsubaBTW, the pic below is my tsuba, which is not for sale... will be mounting it on one of my nihontos when time permits.

Got mine a few months ago, took about 3-4 months to ship iirc...if I was in the market for another custom (well, in he next couple months at least), I’d still pick Huawei over Sino based on what I’ve seen/heard/experienced.

I've owned and handled both the Windlass and the Kingston Arms type XIV swords... the Windlass is a beast (but a nice beast at that), the KA being designed by Angus Trim though gets my vote - lighter and much easier to control.
Edit: I hate typos. Lol.

I’m getting a Japanese shinken that was made in 2008 by Komiya Yasumitsu. I’m also looking at getting another Marshall Damascus and fitting it with Mike’s Warden twisted guard and pommel. I also have a pending order with Point Gallery (Daryl Kyle) for a Highlander Duncan’s Musashi katana using one of my Kaneie Mountain Spider katanas for the blade. I’d like to get one of Kiku Matsuda’s knives, but they’re so hard to come by.

I need to update this post - all my pics have been held hostage by photobucket. Hopefully, I’ll get my posts in order over the holidays.
