Hi Folks,
I sent Huawei a custom katana order est. 3 months ago. Huawei acknowledged it, but so far, I have not heard anything more. I wonder if Huawei has a lot of custom orders to fill currently. Used to be, the Huawei Ebay store had a wider variety of "off the shelf" swords. Now, just some standard models and they don't seem to be moving much. Every 2 or 3 weeks, I'll send Huawei a polite reminder, but have not gotten any confirmation. Thus my thinking that Huawei may be swamped with custom orders. Normally, when custom orders are light, Huawei IMO adds one or two special swords to the Ebay store.

FWIW, it may not just be Huawei, and maybe not just custom orders. A few months ago, I ordered what should have been an "off the shelf' item ("Last One!!") from Kondo. After a back-and-forth of emails when the sword didn't ship, they finally admitted that their supplier had been out of the blade style, and things were stalled until the supplier made some more. I eventually got the sword a month late, but without any other issues. One wonders how many resellers are on backorder at any given time. There are a lot of resellers, and business appears to be good. Prices also seem to be increasing. Perhaps the Longquan forges have reached capacity.

I ordered a custom sword from Jacky about 3 months ago too... he shipped it out a couple days ago, now waiting for it to arrive. Hope yours doesn't take much longer.

I heard from Jackie of Huawei yesterday. Said was getting to my sword. Said weather has been 40'C (104'F) which has made progress on swords slow. (I think it is wet heat there...which may not be good for paint/glue drying...wood drying, etc). Plus who wants to work when so hot. I replied to Jackie, saying...hold off on my order until weather is cooler, for the sake of the workers. ...who wants to do work when hot and miserable? Rinc

I'm waiting on a saya and tsuka. Supplier told me the heavy rain is making it a nightmare to paint anything.

Mr. Yao of Hanbon has occasionally blamed the weather for delayed shipment of a sword. Usually, rain is blamed.
In all honesty, I didn't believe plain old bad weather could shut down manufacturing until I saw Mr. Southren's video showing a (typical?) modern Longquan sword forge. Yeah. Weather could definitely shut down an operation like that.

I checked EMS tracking yesterday and my custom Huawei has left San Francisco heading to my corner of the world, Deep South Texas. I'll post pics in the New Acquisitions thread once it gets here.

Oh looks like it's happening to me too! I've ordered a custom from Huawei eBay on April 1. Still hasn't arrived yet, so 4 months already. I've messaged him a few times to see how progress was going with it as he originally said it would take "15-20 days" to complete and ship it off to Aus. Around two months ago, I've sent another message asking about progress. But no reply. Then another month later, I've sent another message. Still no reply. So It's been around 2.5 months since I've last heard from him. Maybe he really is swamped with orders lately, or could be the massive heat in China. Was so excited when he said "15-20 days" because it'll be my first ever katana... Just hope it gets here soon

Mine got here today... super excited, but really busy. Will post some pics in the New Acquisitions thread when I can, and might do a "review" post later with stats it has compared to what I sent them.

I hope it's not wrong or against the rules to be bring this back up. But Robert, I'm curious to know if yours has arrived yet?

I have not heard anything more from Huawei. So, I am still waiting. Longest wait on a custom Huawei has been a year. Shortest, two or three months. Today, I sent a very polite inquiry. Will post when I get a response. RinC

So why does huawei take so long for a custom order? I have noted they don't even advertised custom orders anymore. I have seen a few I would like to buy, just don't like the black rayskin on black Tsuku Ito.

That's a killer wait.
It's kind of odd, most of these eBay vendors tend to widen their inventory over time, and Huawei is narrowing it down. They've really taken to the black on black, and Nami style koshirae, all of which I like quite a bit, and removed the customization options that used to be at the bottom of the page.

Hmm me neither, nearly the 6th month since the order. I understand it's a custom order, so I'm not complaining. But I have to move back to my home country in around 3 months. Really hoping it doesn't get shipped here after I've returned back to my home country. That'll be a real pain in the backside, having to sort out the package when the new residents move in. Which leads on to the question, I know Jacky just goes completely silent with emails after the payment. Does anyone know if he actually reads them? Hoping to send him an email just before I leave for home.

I've seen postings on Facebook on people receiving their custom katana (and being given a choice on blade, since Huawei contracts the smiths to make multiples of each)...

Still not reply here. Typical Huawei/Jackie customer communications. But Jackie's swords have always ended up being worth the wait. Other than my last wakizashi (sloppy workmanship, unlike my earlier 3 Huawei's). Yes, Huawei's offerings have become fewer. Used to have at least twice the offerings. Including wakizashi's. My best waki is a est 5 year old Huawei waki in budget furniture...but the blade...wow! Also the workmanship was extremely high....master grade. RinC

I bought my first Huawei due to the good reviews. That being said after cutting a few things the Fuchi became very loose. Removing the Tsuka I found it had a crack. The tsuka was on super tight. Best I can say is nice blade and the ito is wrapped as it should be. Emails to Huawei go unanswered...... Needless to say I won't buy another.

ordered a custom katana mid july of this year. jacky told me 35 days... early september i started sending ebay messages; jacky answered on the 3rd try. told me they're having issues with making the saya. i responded i was okay with additional wait. it's been another month and no contact. i just sent another message asking what the status of my custom katana is. i guess it may be another month or two of waiting for me.
