shishitomoe, I've never ordered a custom sword from Huawei, but don't think you're in trouble... they're finishing off the Chinese New Year, and some workers/companies have started up production again. One of the companies I've contacted many times just emailed me Wed. saying they were ready to start shipping items again. Here's an interesting article I just found: Don't place orders before or right after Chinese New Year

Dark Knight Armoury also sells Windlass along with other manufacturers. Their specification information is lacking and prices are not as good as KoA. However, it is a source and located in the US. Just so you know, once Dark Knight Armory's stock runs out (unless Windlass does an about face), they will also have to buy Windlass products at retail prices. I'm completely sold out on all the Windlass models, and is the main reason I have taken off Windlass products from my online store. On another note, this reminds me of Benchmade - a couple of years ago, BM decided to stop selling their knives to wholesale companies/distributors, and opted selling only to brick and mortar stores that purchase a certain amount (minimum 1st order was $10,000 I believe). These stores have to continue purchasing in decent quantities, and also having to abide by BM's MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) or else be dropped as one of their retailers. So far, it's worked out for Benchmade... I don't think anyone here believes Windlass is Benchmade though, and think this will end up hurting them in the long run.

I see this as a blunder on Windlass' part... semi-ok for the short term, but their sales will plummet in the long term, and might even drive themselves out of business altogether.

I liked the old days on Msn chat rooms where you could whack or get whacked with hammers. I did a bit of both. Lol or throw virtual pies at others who annoyed you

I would stay way from Gerber. I recently reviewed one of their knives here. The findings of the review was not encouraging. Even more discouraging was the response from other SBG members, which seem to paint a less that brilliant image of them. Their stuff isn't horrible, but the steel they use is not the hardest (they opt for a lower end stainless in many of their brands I believe), and for what you pay, its not worth it. I mean, the Gerber one in that review was $50 cdn. The K-bar BK11 I have was bought for $53 cdn plus $15 for the clip. I still like Gerber, but only their American made versions... the Chinese made stuff is not as good as it could be because like Afoo mentioned, their steels are sub-par and the heat treating is too. The American made knives though are a different story - they're still very stoutly made, but can be pricier than what's already been mentioned: KA-Bar, Ontario, etc.

Thanks for the comparison BIll... I love the type XVIa blade shape, and your comparisons have helped me figure out which one to buy (if not both).

Like Adrian said, Amazon does indeed have great prices, BUT, you need to be careful with some unscrupulous dealers who try to pass off Chinese knock offs for the real deal. A few months ago, I personally caught a dealer selling Buck knives on Amazon that were knock offs - they were very similar to a real Buck, but the problem was that Buck never made that model and there was no Buck stamp on the blade. Before buying one, I'd suggest you cross check with reputable sources (large online stores/the companies themselves), or post pictures of it for others to chime in on the legitamcy of the knife.

Sorry to hear about your bad news, but like you said - you can't keep a good man down. Good luck with the move.

"Sorry - this video unavailable in your location" Grrrrr *grumbles* Maybe it's too violent for Canadians to watch? J/K... don't know why it doesn't show up in your location.

Maybe some enterprising person could start and create a sticky about upcoming events and which part of the country (or world) they're taking place in... I think that would help out everyone involved.

If you look at the pic, there seems to be a clip ring on the end of the "knife"

Afoo, I guess I read your OP too fast - missed the part where you mentioned having the hammer shipped TO Canada... might have been QC'd when DSA got it, but it doesn't explain why it arrived to you in such bad condition. The climate issue I mentioned really shouldn't have been a problem then unlesss the hammer had been stored for a while without QC before it shipped to you. Still funky looking nonetheless.

I'm not defending this particular piece from DSA, but wood can and does warp, especially when going from one temperate zone to another. As for the head - I don't know what's going on there - that's funky looking. I had a couple of Gen2 swords a while back that I sold on this forum. The scabbards swelled/warped so that the blades wouldn't go in all the way. The same thing goes with Chinese katanas... sometimes the saya will crack from the warping, the kurikata will fall off, etc., all due to moisture/temperature changes. **full disclosure - I sell swords/knives, etc. from different suppliers, including Hanwei, DSA, Cold Steel, etc.**
