Jeffrey Ching ( The Samurai Workshop )doesn't recommend acid etching the hamon on "art polished" Kaneie swords, but you could ask him if it'll work on swords with a lesser polish on them.

ZNKR Kata

As I've been taught by my sensei, ZNKR is not meant to be as combative as any koryu style simply because of the ZNKR system itself... I think you showed that clearly in the vid you posted and in your explanations. I will add (if it hasn't been done before - forgive me - haven't had a chance to read the whole thread) however, it can still be a deadly art by Iai practitioners. This is interesting. Seitei combative but not "that " combative. Thanks for the info. He tried to explain how to show the difference while doing kata? I will ask my sensei next class session.

The blowout sale was just that - a complete sale of all Kaneie stock from CAS Iberia... the lucky people who got into the sale are, well, lucky. Expect prices from US dealers to go back up and remain high for their remaining Kaneie stock. Oh, before I forget - Jeffrey Ching is a Kaneie distributor/retailer in Europe... don't forget to check out his selections.

A couple more questions - Made in China (Taiwan) or Japan bother you (authentic, not talking about clones or counterfeit knives)? Or do you prefer them made in the USA?

A few questions: what's your budget, what's the max blade size for your area, and do you like full straight blades, or semi serrated blades? There's a literally thousands of knives avaiable for EDC, but once you can answer the questions above, it'll help narrow down recommendations.

USPS usually does a decent job for me... the other big companies are more expensive and don't have the track record (at least within me) for shipments out of the states.

I just got this and am passing on the info to fellow SBGers who have nihonto they want judged/appraised: "Hello- With great pleasure I would like to announce the return of the NTHK-NPO Shinsa Team to the US. Very nice and smooth... the only thing I noticed is that you transitioned from one part of the kata to the next too quickly (not enough zanshin, which is just my opinion - could just be a difference in how our senseis taught us)... other than that, your technique is very good.

Not too critical, but just for reference, I've been studying Iaido for over 10 years, working on practicing before taking my Sandan test in a few months. I understand what you're saying about the techniques, very similar to what I've been taught. Some of the differences you mentioned though might just be a difference in the way my sensei has taught me (Eishin Ryu) - he prefers we not look at YouTube vids, since they can sometimes show bad angles, etc... which is probably why some of my techniques look a little wonky in the vid as well. I do agree though that my sayabikki and kirioroshi/kiriotoshi could be stronger in the techniques shown, did not warm up prior to taking vid, so basically, this was a dry run. Also, I agree with your assessment on noto - the saya was too high/not parallel to the ground as I've been taught. Bad form. Again, probably due to not warming up. Thank you for your honest appraisal of my vid, will try and post another one soon with all parts of the Tachiwaza not shown in this one. LG

Hope I'm not commenting on too old of a thread. Are you wanting critiques or is this just show and tell? Comments appreciated... looking at the vid, I noticed the tsuka was not pointing at my "opponent" in some of the techniques, and not exactly horizontal during noto... What other observations did you all notice?
