to be honest the deadliest warriors are the warriors who win battles without fighting. I'm gonna have to slightly disagree with that statement, night. Deadly means that one must kill. So I would agree the warrior who wins without fighting is the most effective warrior, but not the deadliest. But this show honestly sucks. As a history buff, I'm insulted over it. Then again, I was insulted when the History Channel had a special on samurai and ninja and showed the ninja's sword as the hollywood straight blade. Besides, the experts on that show act like handicapped monkeys with testosterone injections. I wish I could have been born in an era when men were actually men instead of macho idiots.

I still watch it, honestly it's a show fun to disagree with. Its frustrating cause if well done it could have been good idea. Then again, its TV, TV is fast-food : never really satisfying and bad for your health

its a television show you wanna be educated watch the discovery channel i for one watch it and take it as not as fact not as fiction but just take what their saying into account with the information they provide and form my own opinion and to be honest the deadliest warriors are the warriors who win battles without fighting. You're kidding, right? Discovery may be fun and have a lot of interesting facts, but it also has an awful lot of inaccuracies and plain, outright propaganda and falsehoods, too. It is no more reliable than the History channel or National Geographic or ABC.

That IS propaganda...a cache of words purported to be fact, by those who wish it to be fact, as opposed to the truth, which is- no samurai could take a Viking. There, I said it. LOL j/k

Well, I'm not being that nitpicky, but I am disappointed that they brought the .30 cal for their sniper, instead of the Barrett .50 Cal.
And then they brought out the Berretta 9mm, the most hated sidearm in the US Army, rather than the .45 cal 1911.
And I am also noticing that they aren't comparing defenses. The Interceptor Body Armour (IBA) can stop multiple direct hits to the center of mass from anything the Spetsnaz brought out. I don't know what the Spetsnaz wear for body armour, if they wear anything at all. But these items are not being compared.

I finished watching it even though I was a bit pissed earlier. I take offense when shows misuse military jargon/lingo, so I lost my bearing. I have alot of respect for the Green Berets and the Spetsnaz. The final results show them essentially even - seperated by 7 kills. I am ok with the results of this matchup, even though I am a military reservist here in the US. I remember hearing about the Spetsnaz having a notable training mortality rate years ago and thinking that they must train to a much more realistic standard than we do. I'd say that this would give a little bit of an edge. I am not sure why the Barrett, RPG7, and IBA were left out of the mix; probably would make it too difficult for their 'pooter to figure out.

The scientific matching of two different warriors is a gargantuan task and I think its ballsy of SPIKE to take it on but there are some SERIOUS holes in the show. During one of the Aftermath episodes, it was revealed that more weapons than were actually shown got entered into the simulation. Which raises the obvious question, what was used that we didn't get to see? Also the CHOICE of weapons is often rather odd (Giving the Yakuza Sai and the Mafia an Ice Pick? NOT showing the Naginata for the Samurai or the Longbow for the Viking?) and sometimes makes me wonder who's getting to pick which weapons show up. The methods of determining the effectiveness of different weapons are often slipshod. The best example was the recent Spetznaz vs Green Beret where the Green Beret grenade was selected as the most effective. Both grenades are (basically) identical and simply because the American grenade made a bigger bang doesnt mean it's more effective. A grenade is supposed to kill people with shrapnel, not explosive energy. The Molotov Cocktail was also rather screwy as the bottle is designed to break on impact, not just go in and spill gas. Although it was hilarious during the "reenactment" shot with the use of the Cocktail, the burning rag went flying off-camera then a mysterious fire started in the building In the recent fights with firearms, groups have been included to avoid the occasional lucky shot. It makes sense, but it raises the question why groups were not used earlier. Spartans especially were not duelers, they fought as a group with the Phalanx (As Im sure this group needs no reminding). The history is....maybe 70% on. Claiming that the Yakuza were "modern Samurai" was completely off base. The use of the Ninjato by the Ninjas didnt square either because there's very little evidence the Ninjato existed. In the end, a great deal of what the show is trying to determine is subjective and cant be measured. Its entertaining and informative, but I wouldn't consider it an accurate measure of the warriors in question because so much is left out due to time constraints and to make it more entertaining for non-history people.

I agree 100% So many aspects of the show are just ridiculous... but I think it's worth it for the weapon tests.
