Okay, just watched that episode, and I'm done. The amount of BS is not worth the few interesting demos.

I was just able to watch it myself. Yes, the BS factor is high, but the show is just so damn funny to me that I cannot avert my eyes. It's got edged weapons, campy scenarios, and alot of smack talk - the only think that could make it better would be the insertion of some flatulance and perhaps a little cleavage.

i mostly just watch it for the smack talk and some light exposure to other weapons that are out there. and the end "scenario" is just hilarious... they should do the knight vs samurai, and pirate vs ninja and just put those arguements to rest haha or stir them up again not sure which

What can I say...I have different tastes. However, if that (mockery of a) "samurai" fellow had let out a loud one during any of his "demonstrations" I'd have been greatly amused. Maybe that's why he yelled so much... Of course, if the "viking" guy had crapped himself throwing two spears...that would have trumped the "samurai" pretty easily.........

You know...wasn't fighting with two weapons considered a sign of madness in the sagas?
Incidentally, I was suprised Clements wasn't in on this one. The smack talk and skill showing seems right up his alley.

i liked it, was better than regular tv.
had me thinking, they should make a movie, some vikings get lost at sea and end up in japan, and then attack.and the samurai fight back. would be so cool. and why yous complaining about smack talk.....it was all in fun.
i think the show is well done. maybe its not 100% spot on, but why pick at it? and a samurai and a viking would never fight 1 on 1, it would be a massive brawl, like in braveheart , and you would even see who killed who with what.
1 MORE THING.......
a common misconception about the vikings is that they were bloodthirst barbarians , who kiiled to survive etc, etc. this is wrong. there is evidence that they were a trade community and travelled vast distances to many countries and involved them selves in world trade. when christianity arrived in scandanavia, they (the norsemen) were persecuted as pagans, so in the end they revolted against the occuping christains.te christians kept returning and waged war on them, so in the end , the norse men, destroyed what was left of them in ther lands, then decided to take the war to them, and started attacking coastel towns and villages all over europe.
people nowadays like the idea of bloodthirsty berserkers, so i guess itrs gonna stick.
as for the samurai...... they were basicly aristocrats who thought themselves better then evrybody else. i hate that attitude.
btw, i still like samurais more than vikings.

Butt cleavage was the first thing on my mind, too. Of course...nah, nevermind. Too many ladies and children here. Oh, and samurai weren't always aristocrats. They sort of evolved into them. Later "samurai" were only such in title, but the first guys were servants to the aristocrats.

If you're a girl, what's cleavage gonna do for you when you got your own set to ogle? I guess that's why us guys aren't girls, we'd be entirely too preoccupied with the girly parts. LOL

The cliché about the Norse being barbaric bloodsucking animals that only pillaged gets on my nerves also...we have to take this show for what it is with our respective knowledge and with a critical mind, it's true some of the tests can be interesting...but that #*%" cliché of Viking barbarian hordes terrorizing everybody: sick of it!

I would'nt take it to hear what some people think of Vikings.being Irish i know that they were not all barbaric but great warriors and sailors also they built two of Irelands greatest cities Dublin around 888 AD and Limerick most of Irelands sea port towns were viking first it is said this even was where the red hair came for and of course the blonds

This show is about ratings- sure, its also to get people interested in the historicity of the warrior but only as THEY see it. The trash talk stuff, that's a decidedly Spike kinda thing; like the prefight interviews they do on UFC.
You needn't accept it as truth if you know or think you know better. I for one do not believe that the Vikings were dumbstruck rapists and pillagers, but I do believe that they DID do that, just that it wasn't all they were about. Hell, the Normans claimed descent from them and as you said, they inhabited Ireland and melted into the culture and bloodlines of the time.
