Agreed, and I have to concede the point to Shadowhowler that both sides were pretty unruly. I'm still gonna watch the next one.

and as to the "trash talking" remember what channel its on and who their target audience is this is the same channel as UFC I find this is a bit unfair also... I am a huge MMA fan... not just the UFC but other venues as well... there is a LOT of MMA out there that is not the UFC... but the UFC is the biggest and the loudest, so its what people who are not fans of the sport think of in place of MMA. In fact, most people without much experience with MMA don't even call it MMA, they call it Ultimate Fighting. The UFC has done such a good marketing job that many people think that they ARE MMA, and this is not true. Like Toyota and the Prius. They did such a good job marketing their car that when most people think of hybrid cars they think of the Prius... and few know honda released the insight before toyota released the prius. Sorry, little tangent there, I used to work at honda. There are some stupid, trash talking, WWE wannabe types in Mixed Martial Arts and in the UFC... but there is a FAR greater number of serious martial artists and competitors who are respectful of the sport and their opponents. To the casual observer tho, you won't see those guys... because the squeakiest wheel gets the grease. MMA on a whole is filled with fighters who understand the concept of honor, good sportsmanship, and respect... it's a small minority of loud mouthed asshats that soak up all the TV time because they are more 'interesting' that give the sport of MMA a bad name. End Rant.

Yeah, I am being kinda silly; but lookit - as long as Spike is doing this, I might as well get a suggestion in...I mean, it could be a Philistine fighting a dwarf Byzantine warrior armed with a hand-held Greek fire pump; which is historically-accurate! Now that's entertainment! Say it would not be cool!

Thats part of the problem I have with the UFC and Spike TV, and the Ultamate Fighter TV show. Of late, they have been amping up that 'testosterone' it seems... and the marketing has been as you describe. If you watch some of the MMA in Japan... it's interesting because it's TOTALLY different. The crowds are almost completely silent threw out the fights... only clapping and cheering for brife moments durring very exciting ecxchanges. Unlike the crowds you see on the UFC events... were they start booing and acting like asshats if someone isn't punching someone else in the face for a 10 second span of time, and they have almost no appricated for grappling and ground fighting techniques. Blargh. The UFC has a big spotlight right now... and what they do *IN* that spotlight can effect the entire MMA world because the UFC's influence is so strong. I hope they will steer away from these cheesy antics... but I'm afriad they won't.

Dare I drop the mention of the Kimbo Slice CBS "Special"? Oh, and the Viking vs. Samurai episode is on SpikeTV.com, though it won't seem to load well for me right now. Oh, well. (I probably shouldn't have mentioned that, but it's all in good fun, right guys? ;D ...guys? Perhaps it's just me, but it doesn't seem like a lot of the UFC guys have much "tecnique", though I don't really understand grappling, being a karateka. I just compare them to something like Royce Gracie and he just blows them completely away. Seems they must be doing something wrong. Also, they seem to have a tendency to block elbows and punches with their heads...I'm not trying to press a point, so don't get mad at me. In fact, please correct me. These are just observations, and I don't even really watch it much at all. ...Cheers!

UFC strikes me as being more streetfighting than technique, although having said that streetfighting does have its own technique to some extent. The UFC strikes me as becoming the new american wrestling with all the arsehattery occurring. There is some sense in blocking punches with the head because it is the most well protected part of the body if you do it properly. However being that I am not a grappling or streetfighting fan, I guess I don't really understand it and for the most part many of the fighters are using gracie anyway because of it's effectiveness.

I'd rather outmanuver and out think my opponent than out grunt and punch him cause it will most likely catch them offguard

Kimbo Slice is a joke... and he and CBS did amazing amounts of damage to the advancement of MMA... Royce Gracie was/is an amazing fighter... but did you see him get dominated by Matt Hughes a few years back? It was a sad sight to see... There is an unbelivable amoutn of tecnique involved in mixed martial arts... because it involved striking, werestling, submissions, and the transition from any of the three to another of the three at any time, which is a skill in itself. In the early days it was often style vs style... but nowdays while many MMA fighters have one main style they started with, most train in ALL aspects of MMA and some are just as good at all three. Those are the guys I really enjoy watching... fighters like GSP, who happens to be a very respectful guy also. It is absolutly NOT a streetfight... it's just not as pretty to watch as Wushu or Capoeira... but it's effective. Much in the way that Mauy Thai is not verry showy or interesting to watch to a lot of people, but it's deadly effective. As for not being able to follow the grappling... thats a problem with a lot of the cassual observers of MMA. Sadly, promoters regoocnise this also, and often try to influence fighters to stay standing and trade strikes... because thats what most people who don't follow MMA or submission fighting closely think of as REAL fighting... hitting someone in the face. The Gracie family did a LOT to open peoples eyes to grappling... but it's still WAY less popular or understand then styles like Tae Kwon Do or Boxing... or any art that involves hitting someone in the face.

maybe a lil off topic... but as far as he white man stealing their lands and the lack of concept of ownership my understanding (if it's wrong blame my history professors that i discussed this with) is that the lack of ownership concept referred primarily to land but it was in the sense that the land was there for everyone like a public bathroom anyone and everyone can use it. euro's however said well if i give you five bucks then it's mine. but to the natives that just meant the euro's would use it too and they made five bucks in the process. but for the euro's it meant they owned it the way we're all acquinted with and thus the natives had no right to use or be on it etc...
and on the matter of who was more arrogant.. both sides were incredibly arrogant but i got far more annoyed listening to the gladiators talk especially since (unless i got the guy wrong had it on in the background) one of the main guys for the gladiator side was supposed to be a black belt? with the kidn of crap spewing form his mouth i doubt he is actually a black belt and woudln't be surprised if he's only shodan if he actually does hold that rank. the apache side was also arrogant but i don't know i guess i felt like they were at least able to back up what they were saying a little more, and thats without the "computer simulation"

The fact that the guy acted like a punk ass does not make me disbelive his claim to a black belt at all. Sadly, back when I was training and competing regularly, I encountered plenty of tools who were black belts, even instructors. As much as we might want wisdom and humility to come with the black belt, it is not always the case.
