I've not heard of any swordfight breaking out in any Faire, esp. not in MD- they tout the 'family friendly' atmosphere as being the reason but my thought is- isn't that part of the reason why they come? They're not necessarily interested in the costumed fops, they want to see knights! A knight without his sword is like a car w/out the gear shift- nice to look at but it ain goin nowhere.

You guys missed a pretty good day yesterday if you did not go. The temperture was in the lower 70s with a good breeze all day. I was able to get by wearing plate half the day without breaking a sweat! ;D
Pictures forthcoming, once we get them on the computer!

Here are some pics from this last weekend... Waiting on the King and Queen to pass, literally. I play stalked them around the faire for a little, obviously hiding behind trees and such. Near the end of the day, one of the royal court ladies took a picture with me which was rather funny. She told me that the Queen thought the King had hired me out to do some dirty work - which was the entire point of the costume! My best friend and I getting a picture of the plate. It was not too warm to wear it, but I did change out of it after lunch do to needing a tad more adjustment to take care of some pretty uncomfortable pinch points. The Del Tin 5161 looked really nice with this rig, though it was a little bit of an overstatement. Damn thing can be used as a cane to walk up hill if need be. Some of my posse. I really liked the look of the Windlass Arming Sword I did up last week with the Ravenswood Leather. Typical response when harassed by a faire gypsy highlander ninja pirate that knows absolutely nothing about quality weaponry, including members of the aforementioned posse... We plan on going again the first weekend of May - so if you are going to be there, let me know in advance!

I possibly looks like this weekend for me and the wife.More than likely sunday because I want to get to Museum reps sale on saturday,I havent missed it in 12 years. It was much better many years ago when they carried Del tin swords but if you dig enough you can usually find some bargains. The year they got rid of the deltin stuff was the best, the DT swords were going for $65 to $85 and nothing wrong with them,I bought 3 swords that day. Last year I got the viking shield,a spatha and various clothing pieces for the wife,I just hate to miss it.I am looking for a plain viking tunic to start doing the viking thing.I dont want to be a wuss but it's supposed to be in the 80's this weekend so maybe no armour. Again as for the faire probably Sunday hope to see somebody there.

Heh, I was at the MRL sale from about 9am to 10am getting a few odds and ends before I went to a seminar we were doing for the Cub Scounts in Eatonton all day Saturday. Probably saw one another and did not know it.
Went to the faire on Sunday. Almost instinctively punched some rickshaw carnie when he came up behind me and yanked my hood off the top of my head. After I emphatically explained to him how that touching me was unwarranted and probably not a good idea, we went on to have a pretty good day. I seen another guy and carnie almost get into a fist fight over the guy swatting the customer's girlfriend on the arse with a racoon tail. The carnies used to be real good about not harassing people in costume, but this year, they seem to a little braver than normal.
I think that we will be going one more time, planning on Memorial Day weekend. We have a whole brood of people coming in then and will be sure to make the best of it. ;D

Update here when you plan to go next, Odingaard... I'll be going at least once maybe twice. I didn't get to make it on saterday... my wife got word she was being sent overseas for at least 5 months or so... so she didn't feel like going. Now I'm swinging solo for awhile...

Well, Dragon*Con is less than a month out. If you have never been, it's the largest 4-day party nationwide this side of Mardi Gras. We always have an insanely deviant good time (I'd post pictures/videos, but I'd get banned ;D). This is my 10th Con, I've been attending on and off since 1992. I've never felt like it was a waste of time or money - trust me...
Who's going this year, if anyone? If you don't go, you are missing out big time.

I'm not exactly clear on what Dragon Con *IS*... is it like a game convention, comic convention, RenFaire... all of the above? Gimme some details.

Well, Dragon*Con started as a small gaming and comic book convention back in the early 1980s. It has since grown to encompass science fiction, fantasy, reality tv, gaming (board and video), cosplay, art, music, WMA, LARP, SCA, music, Ren Faires, independant films, fan fiction, comic books, action movies, and more. Downtown Atlanta (well, 4 blocks of it) fills with exhibits, vendors, displays, writers, artists, musicians, movie/tv stars, general mayhem, drunken chicks, and other deviance for 4 days every Labor Day weekend. Typically, around 100,000 people show up. Literally there is something for everyone - no matter what you are into. In short, it is the biggest monster party we have in Georgia. People that have been before schedule their whole year around Dragon*Con. Trust me when I say it is not just some dorky nerd convention, it is so much more than that. Go once, and you will see why... ;D www.dragoncon.org/ - See more here. Be sure to check out all of the photo galleries...
