Would you say there are any martial art videos or manuals are on how somebody would defend against attackers like home invaders most likely using modern day melee implements if the only thing they have access to is a sword when it ever comes down to that situation?
Seeing the discussions about self-defense was thinking about what it might be like.
Swords are obviously not a replacement for firearms in countries where they can be accessed for protection but it doesn't hurt to teach people how to make the best use of them possible in those instances.
So obviously the most likely to be practical as people have agreed upon mostly in those instances seem to the Gladius, Kukri, Xiphos, Wakizashi, Knight's Riding Swords (Not horseback combat ones) or shorter like Qama and Kindjals.

if they are invading your home the answer is to just stab them with the sword. Unless they have a gun that is already drawn, it should be fairly easy since you would outrange almost any melee implement they are most likely to have.

If the psychological effect of confronting an invader with a sword in your hand doesn't work you're in DEEP TROUBLE! - He has a gun = Trouble - He has a melee weapon and relies on his skills = Trouble - He's psycho = Trouble Edit: - You're trapped by several melee armed psychos = (guess!) So use a not too small and mean looking sword and run away in the right moment. Frantic cries on your phone and a cup of blood red paint next your bed may be helpful. A Mainz gladius with the broad blade and the gigantic pointy tip looks mean!

If the home invader isn't using a gun, then yes, there are plenty of martial arts in existence that focus on using the sword (and other melee weapons) to defend oneself against melee weapons.
People have spent the past 6,000+ years fighting each other with melee weapons, there's been plenty of time to figure out the best way to use a non-firearm type weapon. Look up HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), kenjitsu (Japanese sword arts), traditional Pilipino martial arts, etc.

In some instances where your attackers use melee implements they might not be scared because of there being multiple people also with melee implements. For example you might imagine a gang of thugs with a machete, baseball bat and knife.

Are there methods and etc which show how to deal with those or is it mostly similar analogies like when people fought against bandits with machetes (seaxes), clubs and axes? Especially if it might be more than 1 attacker which might often be the case where they actually might not run if they see someone with a sword? Also heard in Medieval Europe they had an equivalent to the Wakizashi called a "Knight's Riding Sword" I think also which was of similar length to gladius and xiphos type swords used for protection from bandits or criminals but not sure if there were any manuals on that.

I'm an active duty officer for the U.S. and I've done some reading about combat and war.
An often-cited statistic is that in combat only a small percentage of "soldiers" are actually involved in violent acts. For every 100 soldiers, 90 are there for support, 7 are actual backup for melee, and 3 do the killing.
I'm not equating this exactly with a gang mentality, but my point is that if you're gonna use a sword in combat against an armed group, find the 3 percent who are actually dangerous and engage with them. I think we've all heard various versions of the story--if you have to fight then go to the biggest guy and punch him right in the face, that alone may be all you have to do and if they see their leader stumble then you have won the fight.
I haven't fought in years, but if I have to I'll be looking to engage that 3 percent and draw first blood.

Against a large group armed with melee implements and you have any type of blade & are not protecting a loved one, run like hell away if you can. If you have a gun (particularly an AR type rifle), you have options based on many particulars.

In my experience, the kind of weapon used in a martial art is not the most important aspect of martial arts. Timing, distance, balance, footwork, etc. are the essential foundations of learning how to physically fight. If you want to learn how to defend yourself without using a gun, something like boxing could even give you essential fighting skills. Are there specifically martial arts based around using a sword to defend against baseball bats, crowbars, or modern framing hammers? Not specifically, and there doesn't need to be. Join a HEMA class/club and learn how to use a longsword, and you'll be able to apply that skill against basically any object wielded as a weapon. You can also learn saber or one handed sword or staff, etc.

From my experience with Japanese swords, blunt weapons would actually be easier to fend off against than edged weapons. Reason being is depending on where the opponent is striking, you may be able to trade blows with them, and trading blows with a swordsman while wearing no armor is not a winning strategy. Aiming for especially fragile areas(arm pits, insides of legs, groin, throat, insides of arms) is also a wise decision, as even a minor cut in these areas is usually fatal(except maybe the throat, which would require a deeper cut than the other targets.)

Unless they have you surrounded and are unarmed, or you are yagyu munenori at sekigahara(if you know, you know lol), running is the best choice when faced with a group. Same if you are up against a single opponent with a gun: unless you have no other choice, or running is a worse decision than moving in on the opponent, melee against gun almost never goes well for those wielding the melee weapon.

Only fight if there are no other options to protect yourself or someone else from great bodily harm or death.

Yup, even the Frankenstein monster ran away from a mob wielding pitchforks, clubs, whatnot...and I ain't no Franky. Of course, the townsfolk also carried flaming torches, and Franky didn't much care for fire, did he. The problem with a firearm is it will change your life even if you use it to successfully defend yourself, so really only if you can't get away or defending a loved one. Cell phone, locked doors, dogs, alarm system, lighted house & yard, among other things should all come into play before armed confrontation.

There are previous threads on the forum with similar questions such as best weapon for home defence excluding firearms. You might do a search and find the answer you are looking for.

Even tho we beat this topic to the ground in the past few years, I'm gonna go with short sword (such as a gladius or leaf blade) and a shield that's easy enough to use in a confined space, such as a targe, or heater shield. Rush them and crush them against the wall with the shield and attack with an underhand thrust over and over, like they do in prisons, much like a sewing machine. The shield will block any impact weapon, such as a crowbar, Axe or bat, without having to try parry it with your sword and end up bending the blade on the conflict.
Plus you can easily grab them and go if you have them in the room with you and you can block off entries to rooms with the shield
I dunno if there is a martial arts system for this, but learning how to wrestle, box or any system, such as hema or kenjutsu, like others have said, will teach you timing. Working out in general will be a benefit, as long as you get in some high intensity cardio training

Throwing a shield in as a combo with a short sword is at (or near) the top of any list. I really got to get one, but which one is another question.

Does your *stuff* have a value that makes it worth defending? You need to look at motivation. If they are only there to do you harm, that's one scenario. If they are there to steal, everything is replacable. Run like hell and worry about it later.
And if all else fails...
