Hi, Its Gautam this side, Gagan's brother.
We wanted to do the markings as they were in the original blades and have got some good feedback from our distributors to trying and replicate it. Let me discuss with them again and see what do they say.
Dear All, we have two versions of each sword: fighting and regular. Our fighting is slightly heavier than the regular with the edge about 2mm. Regular is about 1mm edges. We dont sell sharpened blades. is the weight issue on both fighting and regular. Hey Gagan! (That is you, right!?) Glad to see you have come over from the Roman Army Talk forums, we are extremely glad to have you. I personally am looking at buying Moonbrand! IMO Deepeeka is at it's best when it disposes of the frills and makes a down to earth, simplified version of an original. I love that you are attempting to replicate things like the markings on the TOTO, Duna and River Witham sword but I think you would do better to just leave the markings off and just focus on finish & strong assembly. Some of the markings turn out better than others, but at the end of the day I think some of them look cheaper for having them when they might look better and more austere & functional without. Just my 2 Cents!

Has anyone owned their Fetter Lane and/or Vendel Chieftan's swords? I'm considering dipping my toe back into Saxon/Viking/Migration-era swords and they look quite nice, at least for display purposes. I haven't kept up on Deepeeka for a long, long, long time, so I don't know how these offerings shape up.

They just look weird, but there are not many versions out there. Yeah, when I first saw them, I had to do a double take. I wasn't sure if Gimli was holding them, or the grips were bigger than they should be. That being said, yeah, there aren't many examples, other than private commissions out there for these swords. Closest I had was a Del Tin Lombard Sword (which is the one sword I regretted selling off). Plus, they come with scabbards. Which, regardless of how well they're made, is more than I can say for a lot of western swords on the market. Back when I originally collected swords (pre-2010), the gist I got about Deepeeka was that they were decent costume swords for reenactors. Otherwise, their blades weren't heat treated and the construction could be dodgy. But from what i've seen in this thread, they seem to have improved quite a bit, certainly with their newer models. I can look past the proportions of grip, but am curious to the quality of the blade.

They are definitely heat treated these days. That myth has dogged them for years and persists because of misinformation regarding their different offerings. They offer untreated swords as a SEPARATE option to people who don't need it. You can sometimes buy untreated blades from DEEPEEKA's suppliers for as much as 50% less (usually on the sale page of KOA). The problem is that these look visually identical to the other models and so I am sure there has been confusion as a result of this. I am of the opinion that they ought to be more strict on how they categorize and differentiate their lines to avoid the damaging PR mixup that comes with the current landscape of distribution. If they had a 'DISPLAY' line, a 'STAGE' line and a 'BATTLE-READY' line and all were clearly branded as such, this issue would likely not persist, but I don't think the distinction is represented well enough and so people still run around saying they 'aren't heat treated'. I also imagine there are logistical issue inherent to their distribution methods and so the untreated blades creep into shipments they aren't supposed to be getting into on some Friday shifts

Well the Comte finally arrived. I won't do a full review, but I will do some first impressions. Here you go.
1) KoA screwed the packaging. The sword arrived with half the hilt sticking out of the box. Noticeable pits, scratches, and scrapes in the steel of the hilt. Can't blame that on Deepeeka, that's all on KoA. 2) The quality overall is about what you'd expect for a sub-$200 sword, perhaps a bit better, but certainly no VA or Albion. Minor imperfections all over the place. 3) Wood scabbard is surprisingly good. Holds the blade pretty well, good seal, leather stitching is not too bad. 4) The sword blade needs polishing. Noticeable discoloration all over the place. It's nothing that some fine sand-paper won't fix, but still it's disappointing. 5) The blade flexes and returns to true. 6) There's a rattle in there I don't like, when the blade makes contact. Or when checking for center of percussion. My Deepeeka prototype doesn't do that. I don't like it. 7) The peen is solid, pretty good overall.
Overall, I'd have to say this is a decent starter from someone on <=$200 budget. It's real, it's not bad. But if someone has more than $200 to spend, then skip this one and go straight for a Balaur (while they're still there).
I'll have to decide whether or not to keep this. I don't feel like putting the minor work into polishing it, so I'll probably return it. I need to sharpen it too. But I might keep it. We'll see. Once the other Deepeeka I've ordered shows up, I'll do a comparison of all three of them and decide.

It's been a while since i checked, but i'm 99% sure that the grips on these 2 models are actually historically accurate in terms of length. These are both part of their Primus (PRS) line, so a level up from the standard Deepeeka.

PS - LoE, congrats on being the first of us to receive one of these newer Medieval models. If i recall, you had 2 more on the way? The Aislinn... and what was the second? I will have a total of three - two were purchased within the last week or two, one - the prototype - was purchased a year ago. I bought a prototype of the Aislinn about a year ago, before these "new and improved" models went into production, when they were still in R&D. Appears a 3rd party individual managed to get a hold of about 40 of these prototypes models, used by Deepeeka to develop their new and improved line. He bought them en masse, then dumped them on eBay for peanuts. Dunno which of those models made it to production, other than the few I've seen for sale at KoA. That prototype is a good sword. Can't speak to the others, but that one was well-made. Bone-handled bastard type XV, diamond shape all the way down. The blade is similar to the Comte (arming), but the rest of it is closer to the Aislinn (bastard). Basically this prototype is somewhere between the Comte and Aislinn. It has the blade of the Comte. The rest of it is Aislinn, minus the gilt on pommel and hilt, minus the integrated belt, minus the fuller. This one.

Been trying to figure out how to upload videos. Special kudo's to Alientude with his patience, helping me figure out how to upload these damn things. Anyway, here's a vid of the Deepeeka prototype Aislinn. Sick! I actually prefer it without the fuller. I prefer it without the fuller too. I think. I won't know for sure until the next one shows up. With a fuller. A few more days.

I do remember that sword - as i think i egged you on while i purchased 2 from him myself haha. Also, i think i'm the one that found the name for it too . Hope you like the "official" model - it's one I plan on picking up at some point lol

"egged me on"...?
You did indeed, Jash.
I'm grateful for it, as a matter of fact. It's a good sword. If the production Aislinn measures up to it, I'll be happy with that too. Assuming KoA ever ships it. Five days and counting.

How did yours work out? Can't recall what you thought of them. You bought two of them. Right? Can't remember which ones. I remember Viking swords?
My memory isn't what it used to be.

So I received my Lake Neuenburg Sword, and finally got around to giving it a good look over. Overall, it's a cool sword. It looks great at arms length, and handles well despite it's weight (See point #3). But there are a few qualms I have that add up to a poor impression. 1. There is a slight twist in the blade. It is minor, but it is still there, which stinks. 2. There is a little gap where the blade meets the guard. They cleverly put a piece of felt to act as a chappe here, which hides it, but knowing it's there bothers me. 3. The sword is over weight! Kult lists it at 2 lbs 0.8 oz. My digital scale (calibrated and tested) shows it at 3 lbs 1 oz. This is significant. The sword still handles well due to the nice POB, but it's 50% heavier than expected so handles differently than expected. Any one of these imperfections alone wouldn't bother me too much, but the collection of them makes me think this will be a return. :( IMPORTANT NOTE: Please don't assume that my particular sword is representative of this model as a whole. I may have just gotten a "special" one. Sample size of 1.
I can almost recommend this sword. Minor twists can be corrected. Kult's page can be updated with the correct weight. The gap by the guard could be a fluke....but as it is, I cannot recommend this sword at this time. I can only report based on my experience.
Jash -- I hesitate to put this on your "gems" thread because I do not consider it a gem. If you'd like me to post the feedback there anyways, please let me know!

That's absolutely ridiculous. :( Deepeeka's new stuff has looked very tempting, but man, they'd better be more accurate on their stats before I decide to bite on anything,

Deepeeka is taking a lot of liberties with visual interpretations and perhaps selling with false expectations. A note to KOA to weigh the swords instead of pasting ad copy. They do have a youtube channel and they could do worse than being truthful when selling what some regard as bargains. The site spec might have been a data entry ooops. www.patreon.com/posts/type-xiv-sword-16657745#:~:text=This%20sword%20was%20found%20in,inventory%20number%20is%20IN%206982. The remains of the original does come in at 2.08lbs Cheers GC

Virtually all the historic swords in this new line have substantial information available. From Moonbrand to the type XII from the lead post. www.patreon.com/posts/oakeshott-type-19467150With all that information in hand, Deepeeka has indicated there are compromises in production. Another not of this group, the St. Maurice sword, is going through a lot more growing pains. I imagine we will be looking at twice, or more, at the retail price for that sword when compared to these less expensive swords. This line will fill a niche in the market and some will enjoy them but those looking may, or may not be interested in knowing where the models came from and adjusting their expectations accordingly. Cheers GC

I really want to pull the trigger on the Moonbrand they put out but I just realized the stats list it as a 'nut' construction so now I am all gunshy. Why put a nut on such a stout blade!?
