Yawn..... so every dumb peasant who fought for the Viet Cong was a Communist and he and all symbols related to him should be shunned? Should he and his nation be condemned forever for their war crimes, mass murders, labor re-education camps, etc.? Or do we just pick on poor Adolph and his pathetic 12 Year Reich? Demonizing the guys defending their home? Do you really think the Americans were the good guys in this? They did what they had to against people who have atomic bombs. I know I'll piss off some moderators by saying this but not everyone is an American. The owner of the site isn't even American. Stop acting like your American views are a global thing that everyone agrees with

The whole world sees Americans as war criminals. I'm of the view who has been sympathetic towards you guys. But if "you ain't exactly like us so eff you" attitude is dominant, you are losing out on allies

I actually have dual citizenship with Canada, bud. But I didn't go to school there, so I don't know what they taught you about WWII. Let me fill in the gaps a little. Germany started a war of aggression with its neighbors. The United States and Canada both fought Nazis across Europe right back into the fatherland and then graciously stopped slaughtering them after the dictatorial powers in Germany and Italy were toppled. Canada helped liberate France and the Netherland by killing Nazis and Italian Fascists. Atomic bombs are an irrelevant nonsequitor to the European front.

Haha, shoot, just realized you were probably talking about Vietnam and not Germany. Yeah, that was a bad war.

A German soldier in WW2 was a Nazi. Too many people want to forget that. I knew a guy in the Army back in 83 who kept telling me that the Waffen SS was innocent of war crimes. No, and neither was the Wehrmacht. That said, there were good men: The single most evil Nazi was a man named Reinhard Heydrich. He, more than any other single individual, created the Holocaust. The English mounted Operation Anthropoid to assassinate him and it cost an insane number of innocent lives - yet had he lived through to the end of the war far more would have died than died as a result of his death. Then we have the story of his younger brother, Heinz Heydrich. After his brother's death he read what he left behind. He learned what his brother did. He spent the the rest of his life, until his suicide to prevent capture in 1944, saving Jews. In her Vorkosigan series of SF books the author Lois M Bujold says: "Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself." By that standard, Heinz was the only honorable man in that family.

THIS is kind of why a make a distinction. I mean, was Sgt. Schultz of Hogan's Heroes REALLY a Nazi? Schultz was a toy-maker who fought against the Nazi's by aiding and abetting Hogan. He was, by definition, one of the good guys.

Vietnam is probably a little more complex than good guy bad guy conversation. That's like playground or highschool level mentality. I expect better from here tbh.

The ability to express an opinion succinctly and with conviction does not necessarily indicate lack of deliberation.

Most Germans during the Nazi times had nothing else but something like Fox News and thought they would be the good guys. Makes this a SS dagger a better symbol?

How many people here have you talked to who think the Vietnam war was good? Honest question. It started a massive social movement here, an attitude which still continues in modern times. I didn't expect this sort of ridiculous comment from you man.

It is because you not realize how america/americans are seen here in europe for some time now... people talk about US and Russia with almost same fear/hate level. In germany, but other euro countrys as well, especially France. Its dramatic. Unthinkable in earlier decades.

And too many people standing and shrugging and saying "oh, we didnt know anything at all". Still. Interesting though the weakened the banning considering video games; you can now play all the Wolfenstein stuff with proper symbols! Not localised in german, but hey! No more Oberwolf, Unterwolf, Direwolf... and LOE the accent pf the german speakers in the english versions - top! xD

In media and in life I am reminded quite often of our poor social status on the international playing field.
