Yea I haven't bought much from any other manufacturers than Windlass for the last few years. I guess you can say they're my "go to guys" for medieval european swords. A lot of that has to do with what I feel they offer. That being a consistent product for the price point. Over the last six months I've probably added over 20 swords to my collection and 3/4 of those purchases have been Windlass. The rest were either non European models or purchased from various manufacturers not on the list such as Balaur Arms, Deepeeka and Kawashima (the supposed no name Chinese manufacturer of European swords sold on Kult of Athena). In regards to vendors, Kult of Athena and Museum Replicas has been the two major vendors I've purchased from with the rest being purchased from the classifieds here and one purchase from Irongate Armory, in Finland. I know what you mean. Its hard to beat a useable Windlass Erbach bought for 150 Euros in Promo from Supreme Replicas (german Windlass retailer)...

Up for the Holidays
We see to get a few new participants each year and maybe someone has tried a new to them producer. Again this is for the viking and medieval sector.

Up for Christmas giving and getting.
Two years + later and only 170 respondents. I know we typically only have a few dozen participating in discussions but the low number kind of underlines how small this community and venue is. A few guests do join and certainly a lot of older members read and occasionally post but it seems still some diehard regulars and new members roam the halls in a quest and offer support.
Cheers GC
I still seem to be collecting more old early modern stuff

I am a little surprised at the numbers in relation to what people buy
I would have thought Windlass would be number one but Hanwei beat them
Albion is where I thought they would be being a high end production sword maker. But surprised A&A is behind them in the sense that their turn around time is a lot shorter than Albion and they make good products and have more choices. And I think their quality is better than most production sword makers other than Albion
One thing that might hurt A&A is that they raised their prices a few years ago and now are at the same price point as many Albions. If someone is going to spend that amount of money they are probably going to pick an Albion over an A&A sword wise at least.

I'd hazard a guess that Hanwei beats out Windlass in this poll for a couple reasons:
- Hanwei sells katanas in addition to European weapons and a few fantasy blades.
- The Hanwei/Tinker line of swords, which is extremely well-regarded and is always in the discussion when somebody asks for recommendations for budget-friendly swords.

The poll is meant to reflect European swords from the viking to renaissance period. Other sections could use similar polls but this one was placed here for a reason and more topic specific. As the poll will remain open for years, any voting for swords of a different genre than Medieval (and viking) can adjust their voting as needed.

Even taking out katanas, I think it's likely the Hanwei/Tinker line is enough to push Hanwei up to the top of this list.

My A&A purchases were several price hikes ago and two of those were second hand. My Black Prince in bronze was about $400 and leather scabbards were $100. I needed a second scabbard for the used German Bastard ($425 shipped), so that BP order with two scabbards was about $600. The third, a one off, was also from the secondary market for $350 shipped.
Two decades ago, there were half a dozen sub $400 sword offerings from A&A.
The German bastard is the only A&A I still have. One by one, the reproductions have moved on to others.
Do register these second hand swords as to their producers.
Cheers GC

Even taking out katanas, I think it's likely the Hanwei/Tinker line is enough to push Hanwei up to the top of this list. Currently in the lead by three points (for the entire CAS family of swords vs Windlass) Collectively, the two "other" groups are in the lead. Also, keep in mind, this is not about how many swords from a given producer one might own. It is simply a register of which producer has had patrons (in this case, all of 172 people + 2 for this poll bump). It is also an anonymous roll call.

Has it been two years already? Wow.
I have three to go; VA, DSA and AA. Judging by my recent buying trends, it may be a while before I check off these last boxes. Time will tell.

I'm both surprised and not surprised at the del tin number. They have been around perhaps longer than anybody on that list or at least just as long but they don't seem to get a lot of love. I find swords by them to be some of the better values on the used Market so from that standpoint I would have expected perhaps a few more for their count.

Though I currently do not own any del tins I have always found them to be good swords and decently priced. The best del tin I ever owned was their 15th century infantry sword. It was well balanced and relatively light. Sold it earlier this year to fund other projects but it was a good one.

If we're just talking Western/Medieval swords/weapons:
Del Tin - 2 swords (one used resold by KoA), very pleased.
Windlass - 1 sword, 1 Seax, not a fan.
Hanwei - 2 axes, not a fan.
Arms and Armour - 1 axe, very pleased.
Unfortunately for the swords, I don't own any of them anymore. I do miss the Del Tins though.
