Okay folks - the period for entries to the SBG Fantasy Design contest is officially closed and the thread locked down. As such, THIS thread will be used for discussion and updates.
I have already gone over all the entries and selected a 'shortlist' of 26 designs - a pretty long 'shortlist' - but over the next week or two the finalist designs will be examined and cross examined by the senior smiths and management at BCI to determine how feasible each of the designs is, try to get some idea of how much they will cost to produce, and then - once we have a true shortlist of finalists whose swords CAN be made real..
It is not going to be a super fast process, but rather slow and steady - but oh so very interesting (as there is also a 'world building' exercise attached to this project - and we will also need some artists to help with some of the illustrations of the characters who are alluded to in the backstories, etc).
Will update you all again once the BCI team have finished inspecting the so called shortlist..
In the meantime, I wanted to thank everyone who entered the competition or otherwise participated in the thread. An awesome response guys, and some REALLY great and innovative designs..!!!
I would be more than happy to do illustrations. Even if just the rough sketches. If any of my designs are picked, I would happily do any illustration as a bonus. Even if not to your likings, it could serve as a template or something
I used to practice photo realistic art. So I think it might be okay looking at least.
Glad I participated in the contest, it was fun even though my art skills are put to shame by toddlers. Anyway, I'd be happy to help contribute to worldbuilding and backstories, even if my designs aren't picked.
Dibs on any and all Dark Elf cities, backstories, deities, guilds.....etc. In my D&D campaign (from almost 20yrs ago) I created a world "dominated" by the Drow, and as such have source materials from R.A Salvatore, Ed Greenwood, and other authors that I've emailed back and forth with over the years, plus original stories, characters, and weapons used in my campaign. I have zero problem with SBG using any of my information for this "world" being created. Paul, let me know whatever you need, okay?

This is so great! Can't wait to see what comes of it all!
I'd make it worth your while. Take you to an ATM. Everybody just walks away. There's about 14 grand in it. Good payday. I think so. Chigurh looked out the window, the shotgun across his knee.... It's still a a good payday. It is. It's just in the wrong currency
treeslicer: Well, shoot! It was worth a try.

christain: I gottaneedtawannahave (my wife's talk, NOT mine) a nice set of plate gauntlets, but they don't give those things away. I finally got a pair of sabatons (foot armor) and had to send the company a blank check and a sample of DNA.

christain: treeslicer---I don't have a 'nihonto', unless you count a great-sword, dagger, and a shield. Oh....and three sets of armor...maille, darkened plate, and polished plate. Matter of fact, I'll be getting more armor real soon.
Apr 12, 2021 0:31:25 GMT
christain: Djinnja----What do you need to complete your armour? Ask me---I may just have it and be willing to sell.

treeslicer: It's not senility. Your nihonto are infested with fox spirits. Send me your swords, and I'll take care of it for you.

christain: Disappearing swords? This would be a game-changer for sure.

christain: I'm getting old and senile. I found two empty sword scabbards in my 'dressing room'. I say to myself---"Where the heck are they?" I looked under the bed. Nope. I looked in every room in the house. Nope. Went back to my room and there they were.

Brother Nathaniel: Markus, I would love to see your thoughts on "Custer's Revenge". Over.

bruntson: Beef and Bourbon, say no more. I'm heading over.
Apr 7, 2021 19:27:41 GMT
christain: Inject the bourbon with a meat syringe and get to smokin'. (The ham, that is. )....McM
Apr 6, 2021 20:03:13 GMT
christain: Or maybe a big ol' brisket on the smoker with my special bourbon/garlic/onion injection., Put about a half cup of your favorite bourbon in a jar, chop and smash the garlic, slice the onion. Lid the jar and refrigerate for a day or two.
Apr 6, 2021 19:50:29 GMT
christain: Sounds great. May do that for July 4th. I never met a ham I didn't like!
Apr 6, 2021 19:17:58 GMT
christain: Happy Easter to you and yours also, Brother Nat. I had the Easter Bunny hide an egg in your yard with the SBG logo on it. If you find it, it contains a gift certificate from KOA for $10,000. Happy hunting!
Apr 4, 2021 22:03:22 GMT
christain: Does it really matter? I'll be eating ham for a week, then use the bone to throw into a pot of beans. That, and a big skillet full of cornbread....happy man here.
Apr 4, 2021 21:57:16 GMT
christain: My wife has a huge ham cooked up, along with potato salad, baked beans, and yeast rolls...along with a strawberry cake and a buttermilk pie. Buttermilk pie may sound gross to some, but don't knock it 'till you try it.
