I didn't have time to come up with any backstories or even colors for my designs... I had the worst case of artist's block until two days ago, so these are a little sloppy. I'm terrible at that kind of thing myself, so never bothered to add a back story...If I had it would have been terribly unoriginal, and likely violated someone's IP. lol. I'm an accountant for a reason, damn it!

But dang it, I just couldn't think of anthing to draw, let alone write up a back story for it.

So, I e-mailed this in, but I wasn't sure it made it through. Just wanted to make sure, and I didn't see a post saying we hit the deadline. My profile just got approved, so... The first one I imagined to be used by a barbarian/berserker. In my mind it is a tribe in a tropical area, fighting off a conquistador type invader. Even a mounted knight, fully armed and armored with five of his buddies would think twice about engaging a half naked, clearly mad barbarian that just burst out of the undergrowth wielding this and screaming a battle-cry. Primitive yet effective. Used much like a viking's axe, trading all defense for ferocious attacking power. One powerful solid piece of metal without guard nor anything added to the grip aside from a thick piece of leather wrapped about. Stone washed, or even leaving a hammered look to it, that would make the edge stand out and add to the primitive barbaric feel. I may call this Shadows Equivalent. Sorry I didn't get this one all in the same scale and put together. That bums me out, but I have a certain fondness for this one. I was thinking something more of a techy fantasy setting for this one. A one handed blade. The guard and pommel being black, or a dark blued steel. I like the idea of the guard narrowing as it moves further from the blade, that gives it a more aerodynamic and elegant(less blocky) feel. The blade in varying oranges/yellows. A dark blade, but perhaps not an evil one. Attachments:

Another I e-mailed in. You never know, so I wanted to make sure. After all, it'd be a shame to not even get mine up. What if dryads "grew" their blades instead of forging them? A little bit of a rush job, but I needed to get the idea out of my head. This blade evokes(hopefully) a natural feel. It would sit in a wooden scabbard, that also had a natural feel and was designed with leaves or branches. I think it could work well as either a one or two handed weapon, though my preference is for one. Perhaps something like this for a scabbard. A filigree like design to compliment the more bare branch like design of the blade. Deep in the forests the dryads tend the flora, teaching some of them to grow into weapons that will, in turn, help to defend that forest from those who would do it harm. A living blade, the dryads wield these weapons as apposed those of metal. The smelting and smithing of metal does, of course, cost the lives of trees. I.e. to light the fires and the use of charcoal. Having their own source of weapons also allows the dryads to remain in seclusion, set apart from the world of men. This contest is fun even if none of my entries are chosen. Attachments:

Overall length of 33", with a 25" blade, I decided to go a little "Out there" with my last design, titled "Messer of Skyborn". It is probably obvious, but the circle by the grip is a ring to hold unto with your index finger. It will assist maintaining a firm grip. The hilt components are made of brass or copper, but steel is fine too. Born and raised as a simple blacksmith, Xavier Skyborn was more than meets the eye. Owning the family heirloom, a messer passed down for years since its original owner and his people came down to the lands of New Albion in grey clouds to teach the citizens agriculture and advanced black smith techniques, medicine and how to read the stars to learn future events. Xavier Skyborn was a pale man with pointed ears and peculiar eyes. he was much more pale than any other around, but his mind was sharp and his wits were quick. Where the Skyborn family resided, misfortune always found its way. The most prominent of these misfortunes was a fungal disease, that if not cured immediately, would cause the host to become a misshapen monster, fueled by violence and hunger. When that happened, only swords made by the Skyborn were capable of slaying it
