I mentioned it in another thread, but the Junglas from ESEE is also a good option if you want a big ol' knife. I've found ESEE knives to be a little better than the Becker YMMV.
ESEE, I feel, need a grip upgrade too. theknifeconnection.net has an awesome set of well reviewed grips that give it the shape the out of the box grips don't have.

ESEE is real good, but you will pay significantly more. I got some Gen ll SP52 (discontinued) and SP53 from Ontario that are pretty amazing, in 5160 steel (probably the best batch ever produced), and these knives were designed by the guy who made the CS Trail master and others.

An oooold but always funny question again: - Civilisation breakdown. - You already have your survival pack with knives, machete or axe, bow, gun (but not much ammo). - You can carry only another ca. 3-4 lb weight. - Which sword would you choose (and why)? My choice: Hanwei Tactical Katana A light TH kat (or messer), durable sandwich handle, easy to maintain, not too long, not too short, a weapon for the less skilled, I think. I'm bored, so trying to relaunch this thread. New guys here, new swords, new experiences, new reasons for escapism. So, what's your sword of choice in a Civilisation Breakdown szenario? In the meantime I got two Zombie Tools swords, Apokatana and D'Capitan. Both really tough beasts. Cut and thrust, durable construction, grip wrap can be redone, bla bla. Question for me is: Single handed hanger/cutlass & buckler, dagger, Bowie, tomahawk or warhammer? Or a two handed heavy kat? Your thoughts?

Hmm. If i were buying a sword for this kind of purpose, I'd want something with a lot of versatility. Sometimes you need a knife for cooking, butchering or eating. Other times you need a fighting weapon.
12" bladed broke back seax would be best and i need to get one from todd Cutler
If im out the door tonight, the CS English Backsword.

The CS SEB would give me great protection, the ability to do other things than holding my sword with my second hand, reasonable overall weight and balance and a good medium-sized cut-n’-thrust blade for open and closed spaces, good vs. single and multiple opponents, ok portability. Best compromise for many different situations, IMO.

A good and not too small knife is already in your pack. This or a tomahawk/sized axe or machete can be in your offhand if you chose a single hand sword. Sword!

I would probably pick my Cold Steel 1917 Naval cutlass or my MAA Arming Sword .

Now if I knew I was just up for a short trip between two safe/friendly places, travelling across open terrain, I’d choose my CS La Fontaine Sword of War and carry it in the hand or on the shoulder, or on the saddle if I had a horse.
